Big Bad van Persie

Big Bad van Persie

That “shocking” event at White Shite Lane rightfully dominated the headlines this weekend and football became a big unifying family as fans, players, managers and clubs sent their goodwill messages to Fabrice Muamba and his family.

Arsenal Football Club has also released a statement to the ex-Gunner declaring that everyone’s prayers and thoughts are with him.

Arsenal’s last fixture was a grueling encounter that showcased the team’s newly found mental strength and spirit. The win against Newcastle also meant that Arsenal had overturned deficits to win four Premier League games in a row.

However, Newcastle’s Jonas Gutierrez spoke after game and labeled Arsenal’s captain as a “bad person”:

“I think Van Persie was wrong. There was no need for him to do that – they have won the game, it is finished. I can’t understand a person like that. I think it is not right. When you feel like that, it is because you are not a good person.”

“I don’t care about the football, I’m talking about the person. When you have people who do that, it’s not right. “We are all used to getting kicks, it’s a sport of contact. But when you have things like that, it is not right. It is not easy to accept.”

“He was the only Arsenal player who reacted like that. The others were saying to him, ‘Calm down, calm down’. When you do that, the fans go crazy as well, so it’s no good for the atmosphere of the sport.

I wrote an article on the subject matter and it’s fair to say that it caused a “great debate”.

A Newcastle ‘source’ via Total Football Madness has stated that Big Bad Robin van Persie has cleared the air with his compatriot, Tim Krul:

“Van Persie and Tim have been texting each other this week and are now laughing about it.”

“It’s all forgotten as far as Tim is concerned and we’re hearing from Arsenal that Van Persie feels the same way.’’

The source also added that Krul is an absolutely brilliant guy and all this was way out of character for him. He didn’t feel he was wasting time but Van Persie obviously felt he was.

He said that Krul felt that van Persie was trying to belittle him but he has already moved on and is looking forward to going to Euro 2012 with him this summer.

He ended his ramblings with this quote:

“The last thing the Dutch coach, Bert van Marwijk, wants is any trouble between probably the most powerful member of his squad and a young keeper who has emerged as one of the best in the Premier League.”

The Netherlands will certainly be one of the nations to watch in this summer’s European Championships and it’s good to know that this issue has been done and dusted. At least, Jonas Gutierrez can sleep well at night and he will stop having nightmares of a Big Bad Wolf…van Persie.

Arsene Wenger hasn’t ruled out a top four for Tim Krul’s Newcastle and Liverpool. They currently occupy sixth and seventh place respectively and are breathing down Chelsea’s neck, the way the Blues are breathing down Arsenal’s neck.

However, the Gunners have gotten a strong stench of the Chicken on a Basketball and are just another win away from leapfrogging those 5PUR2, provided they get another bad result.

Moving over to transfer tidbits, Total Football Madness has reported that Ajax’s Jan Ventonghen has reiterated his desire to join only Arsenal despite the fact that he’s under Tottenham’s radar. The site also reported that Arsenal has placed a 19-year old goalie Jack Butland in its cross hairs.

The Messi-less alien from Planet Krypton living among us humans has ruled out a move to England, stating that he’s going to end his career in the kingdom he has colonized, Barcelona.

There has been so much talk about Lionel Messi being greater than the likes of Pele and Diego Maradona and everyone is entitled to his/her opinions.

I’ve seen many clips of Pele and Maradona but I’ve been honored to watch Lionel Messi play in my time. The fact that we are age mates makes it a lot sweeter for me from a personal point of view.

He has already smashed in 50 goals this season. He has scored nine goals with his right foot, 30 with his left foot, three headers, two with other body parts, five penalties and one free kick.

If you don’t believe that he’s an alien, check out this video

Lionel Messi is undoubtedly the greatest player in this football generation.
