Lukasz Fabianski Puts Up a Goalkeeping Clinic
Arsenal 0 Swansea 1 (Gomis 85′)
Player Ratings – Match Highlights – Post-Match Press Conference
In Arsene Wenger’s press conference, he was obviously disappointed with the defeat against a Swansea side that parked a tank at the Emirates but he made a comment that hit the nail on the head. The gaffer, in his infinite wisdom, stated that if Arsenal played the way they did last night in 10 games, they’d win nine and lose one.. and sadly, last night’s game was the odd one.
This game, in my honest opinion, was quite strange. Arsenal had all the possession for all the seven continents in the world but it came to nothing and the finishing, boy, was very pathetic. Besides killing a bird in the sky with an audacious effort, nothing else came out from the Olivier Giroud basket. Since those comments from Thierry Henry about the team’s inability to win the league with a striker like Giroud, the Frenchman has failed to hit the target in four consecutive games against Burnley, Chelsea, Hull and Swansea.
Well, it wasn’t only poor ol’ Giroud that had a shitfest in front of goal. Usually reliable folks like Aaron Ramsey, Santi Cazorla and the hit-man, Alexis Sanchez, had efforts that were hit straight at Lukasz Fabianski. Nothing worked from an attacking perspective for Arsenal. Nothing.
Credit to Garry Monk and his Swansea lads. They had a bus-parking game plan that worked for them but the Gunners still had a plethora of chances to bury the game. With this victory, Garry Monk has done the double over Manchester United and Arsenal in the same season. Speaking of Manchester United, the trolls were on full force on Twitter (as expected) and if LVG uses his ‘philosophy’ to defeat Arsene Wenger, the Gunners would drop to fourth place, before hosting Sunderland (the well talked-about game in hand).
It’s funny how things suddenly go awry in the wake of a defeat with the fans being Wenger’s for the night. It’s not as if the team was that bad, things just didn’t go the way they wanted. The question would be how would the lads pick themselves from this blip. Arsenal has been one of the most in-form teams in Europe and a defeat has dented what has been an unbelievable run for Arsene Wenger’s men. They had won nine of their last 10 games for fuck’s sake.
Where do we go from here? I don’t need the likes of Mertesacker telling us how they’ve learned their lessons and all that crap. It’s so cliche that if I hear such quotes again I’d probably vomit on myself. There’s the FA Cup final in a couple of weeks and we shouldn’t mess that up. However, there are three Premier League games in front of us and getting good results coupled with some help elsewhere could still see the Gunners finish in their coveted second place.
Time to relax in my hotel at Warri. I’d probably catch up with my boys, Dondeon and Yeezi, and we could play some FIFA or something. Till then, don’t try to get too worked up about yesterday’s result.
It was a combination of a bad day in the office and some excellent goalkeeping from former Gunner, Lukasz Fabianski.
