Look away Arsenal fans. Yesterday wasn’t a day to remember as the Gunners failed to secure the services of any of the players they were linked with. Arsene Wenger had stated times without number that he was only looking for players that were going to improve the team but those targets were unavailable. High profile names like Karim Benzema and Edinson Cavani were mentioned but no moves for the lads came to fruition.
While Arsenal failed to invest in their team on transfer deadline day, other Premier League sides were on the prowl for talent that would improve their respective teams. Gooner Daily looks back at all the drama that happened on that iconic day in the Premier League calendar called the ‘transfer deadline day’.

Norwich’s lanky forward, Ricky van Wolfswinkel, secured a loan switch to Real Betis. The Dutch forward has scored two goals in 29 games for the Canaries.

Watford’s Miguel Layun will be fondly remembered for scoring a goal for the Hornets on his Premier League debut against Everton in Goodison Park. However, he has been shipped on loan to FC Porto.
PSG Duo Linked with Arsenal?
The Daily Mail did their bit to make Arsenal fans cheerful as they published an article linking the Gunners with a sensational swoop for PSG hitman, Edinson Cavani. They linked Mathieu Flamini with a move away (who doesn’t) and lined up Adrien Rabiot as his replacement. Keyboard warriors.
Berbatov Spotted in Midlands
Reports surfaced that Dimitar Berbatov arrived in Midlands ahead of a potential move to Aston Villa. The former Spurs, Manchester United and Fulham forward has been at AS Monaco for two seasons and was hoping to return to the Premier League, where he spent nine years of his career representing the aforementioned clubs.
van Dijk Becomes a Saint
Former Celtic towering center back, Virgil van Dijk, completed an £11.5m move to Southampton. He had become a fan-favorite at Celtic, scoring 15 goals in 114 games for the Celts. He would surely be missed in Glasgow.
Deja Song Vu
After spending the entirety of last season in West Ham’s books, Alex Song returned to FC Barcelona and was swifted notified that he’s surplus to requirements at the Nou Camp, so like Sam Allardyce last season, Slaven Bilic has offer the Cameroonian another chance to play regular first team football with a second loan move.
Holy Moses! He’s a Hammer!
Shortly after signing a long-term deal with Chelsea, Victor Moses, moved to West Ham on loan, in his bid to get regular football. He was one of the notable omissions from the national team, as his manager, Sunday Oliseh, stated that he needed to play more regularly to get any hopes of returning to the Super Eagles setup.
The Future of Walters
Instead of joining up with his teammates in the Republic of Ireland camp, Jonathan Walters stayed behind (with permission from the Irish FA, of course) to sort out his future, as Norwich had made a bid for the forward. He submitted a transfer request to Stoke, and unlike Saido Berahino and Jonathan Stones, his request was actually granted. The only problem was that Norwich had failed to reach Stoke’s valuation for the player.
Ramiro Who?
Amidst the speculation surrounding Jon Stones future, Everton signed a new center back from River Plate, Ramiro Funes Mori, and in all honesty, I don’t know anything about this player. Thanks to the chums at Wikipedia, I now know that he won the 2015 Copa Libertadores with his club. Don’t you just love you some wiki!
No Austin in the Premier League this Season
Remember Charlie Austin? The red-hot QPR forward that was tipped to return to the Premier League after his team suffered the ignominy of relegation? The one that smashed in 18 goals in a side like QPR that struggled in every sense of the word? Yes, that one. Leicester City placed a £12m bid but QPR valued their asset at £15m.
Adios Jonas, thanks for the Memories
After dedicating seven years of his career to Newcastle, notching up 205 appearances and scoring 12 goals, it was time for Jonas Gutierrez to say his goodbyes to the St. James Park faithful. He starts a new chapter in his career with Deportivo de la Coruna.
Kokorin – The Kinda Striker Arsenal Needed
For some reason best known to Chuck Norris and probably, Lord Voldemort, Arsenal was linked with a move for Dinamo Moscow’s forward, Aleksandr Hleb Kokorin. Kokorin began his career at Dinamo scoring 45 goals in 193 games. For a team that has been struggling to score goals this season, the Gunners were linked with a man that statistically scores once every 4.28 games. He’d fit in well with the current lot.
Martial the Martian Passes his Medical Ahead of Move to Old Trafford
Not much people knew (or even still know) anything about this Anthony Martial character. I watched him have a great game at the Emirates when the Gunners hosted Monaco in the Champions League last season and he provided the assist for Berbatov’s first goal. Sky Sports pundit and Arsenal favorite, Thierry Henry, says that Manchester United took a gamble with him. Will he be enough to bring a Premier League title to the Red side of Manchester? The bookies certainly don’t seem to think so, they are locked on the Blue side.
Jelavic Back with the Big Time
Jelavic hit the spotlight when he was signed a while ago by David Moyes into Everton and he made a name for himself, scoring some vital goals for his team. As the years went by, he lost his starting place and switched to Hull where he played as a regular before suffering a relegation blow. Now, West Ham has afforded the lad the chance to return to the Premier League and he would be hoping to repay his manager’s faith.
