Serge Gnabry Recalled and Matt Debuchy Off to West Brom?
In case you all have forgotten due to too much football going on, we are at the winter transfer window and clubs can conduct good transfer business again. Bournemouth was the first team to act, securing the services of the skillful attacking midfielder, Juan Iturbe, from Roma, Everton has been the second team to do any business of any sort, signing young prospect, Matty Foulds, from Birmingham City after they activated his release clause. Leicester also swooped for Birmingham’s Demarai Gray for an undisclosed fee. The Daily Mail has dedicated a page to transfer dealings in the Premier League and feel free to visit the site for updates on other teams.
After enduring a torrid first half of the season at West Brom that saw him make on 12 minutes of Premier League football, Arsenal has decided to recall German starlet, Serge Gnabry, from his loan spell at West Brom. Gnabry was a regular for the Under-21s and he had a spell in the 2013/14 season where he got an extended run-out of games following a similar type of injury crisis that made Joel Campbell get a shot this season.
He has been tipped for great things and even featured for Germany in the recently concluded U-21 European Championships so when West Brom came calling, it seemed like a decent move for the player and the club. For Gnabry, he was going to join a Premier League club that would see him get enough experience and minutes under his belt and for Arsenal, it was nice sending their youngster out on loan to a club that was in the same league so his progress could be monitored. Unfortunately, Gnabry didn’t get as much minutes as he’d have liked as he didn’t fit into Tony Pulis dogged style.
According to the Daily Mail, Brighton Hove and Albion is among the clubs that seek to secure a loan spell for Gnabry, now that he’s available once more. The club is fourth in the SkyBet Championship and would be hoping to gain promotion to the Premier League this season, so getting a player like Gnabry on loan would be a good fit because he has some Premier League experience and he’s a very exciting player to watch with the ball at his feet.
Elsewhere, the Whining One, Mathieu Debuchy is under the radar of West Brom, in the wake of his recent outbursts about lack of playing time. The French fullback has made just two Premier League starts this season with most of his appearances coming from the lower Cup competitions and he hasn’t really lit any fireworks. There was a spell when Hector Bellerin was nursing an injury and was replaced by the Frenchman and he didn’t do badly, but it’s evident that Wenger has placed his faith on the Spaniard and poor ol’ Debuchy can’t handle the competition. Apparently, he can’t take the heat so his first option is to leave the kitchen entirely.
The Frenchman also harbors ambitions of playing for his nation that is hosting the European Championships this summer and in recent internationals he has gone behind Bacary Sagna in the pecking order, as the ex-Gunner has featured consistently for Manchester City following Pablo Zabaleta’s injury woes.
Debuchy’s exit wouldn’t really hurt Arsenal per se because the Gunners have Callum Chambers that can deputize at right back, even though he’s currently back up at center back and holding midfield.
