Arsenal target ex-Man City winger for a free

Arsenal are targeting Leroy Sané to add more backups to the wings

Premier League outfits Arsenal and Newcastle United have set their sights on ex-Manchester City winger Leroy Sané. Spanish giants FC Barcelona were keenly following the winger and now two PL outfits have joined the race for the German’s services.

According to ESPN, contract extension talks between Sané and Bayern Munich have reached a dead end. The Bundesliga giants are dead set on an extension only if the German winger agrees to a salary cut.

This has not been taken well by Leroy and three clubs will be looking to fight for the German’s signature next season. Sané’s contract is set to expire in June 2025 hence he’ll be available for free after the date.

Clubs outside Germany will be allowed to set pen to paper with the winger after January 1. This will be a pre-contract to make sure the player doesn’t jump boats mid-way.

FC Barcelona will be a tough customer to beat following their forte in free transfers. A financial crisis has pushed them to master this art.

Having former Bayern Munich manager Hansi Flick on their side will also be a plus for the Catalonian outfit. The player would prefer moving in with known personalities at the peak of his career.

How Leroy Sané can fit at Arsenal?

As reported previously, Arsenal is also interested in AFC Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo. The Gunners’ latest interest in Leroy Sané might be linked with the other forwards’ situations at the Emirates.

Bukayo Saka has shown some injury proneness following England’s clash against Greece. Mikel Arteta would want to keep Saka fit all year round to go full throttle for the league title.

Having seriously challenged for the league title last two seasons, Arteta would finally want to get his hands on the Premier League trophy as a head coach.

Raheem Sterling is on loan from Chelsea and there is no buy clause or obligation in the contract. Considering that Sterling will probably be back at Stamford Bridge after the end of the season, Arteta is looking for further options post-current season.

On the other hand, Leandro Trossard has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia. This has put The Gunners on red alert hence they are already looking forward to scout replacements.

Both Semenyo and Sané will probably be signed next season. These signings are after considering Sterling’s and Trossard’s situation.

Even if both Trossard and Sterling leave with the latter’s return to Stamford Bridge the most probable scenario, Arteta will still have two versatile wingers who can play on either flank.
