Saturday’s transfer roundup, Tomas Rosicky and the funniest post in eons

Another Saturday without Arsenal playing football is the same as eating a Gala beef roll without drinking La Casera with it. When Walcott scored the final Arsenal goal on the 22nd May, we the gooners set our timers to August but optimism has risen again because active football resumes next month.

As expected, there’ll be some fixtures that will be used as an appetizer for the 10-month long main dish that lies ahead. Arsenal will start the preseason adventure with a move to the Far East to play Malaysia’s XI before playing Europa League semifinalists Benfica. Shortly before the prestigious Emirates Cup that will see the gooners welcome King Henry back to a place he once called home, Arsenal will take a space shuttle trip to Planet Krypton to play Barcelona’s Mutant Academy with Cesc Fabregas the spectacle of the event. A win for Arsenal would ensure that they’ll keep Fabregas for all eternity but a loss would ensure that Fabregas would go to Barcelona leaving Arsenal without their captain but the Gunners would be rewarded with a Leprechaun’s pot of gold worth £50m so the contest will be more or less a win-win situation.

While we still await football in a few days, I’ll give you a brief roundup of that transfer activity making waves in a footballing realm called Arsenal. Gervinho was linked to the club ages ago and it seems as if progress has been made by both clubs but stories about his imminent move somehow went into hibernation. Gervinho has come out from his Ivorian lair to say that he chooses Arsenal. He says,

“I’m going there to play, not to be on the bench. Arsenal love the game. And I love teams that love the game. In football you have to take risks if you want to win. I’m going to Arsenal to win”.

Gervinho arrives at Arsenal shortly after winning the French league and cup double so the hunger to win trophies will still be fresh in his system. As the adage goes,

“If you haven’t tasted your first cigarette, you can’t get addicted to smoking”

Gervinho will primarily deployed as a winger because he’s adept in both positions so Arshavin and Walcott will have to step up their game or they could axed from the starting because Wenger can be very ruthless when he wants to be. Gervinho’s introduction to the squad will bring that much needed competition in the wing positions at the club. Walcott had some bad times while Arshavin had worse times. The newest greedy boy on the block, Samir Nasri took the world by storm at the tail end of 2010 but died down a bit in 2011.

There’s so much involving his future right now with Manchester City emerging as the newest suitors for his signature. Should he decide to sign the £110,000 deal and stay at Arsenal, he’ll have a lot of convincing to do. I wouldn’t mind if he adds the Lampback of Stamford Bridge’s goals to his perfect blend that already has dribbling skills, technique, intelligent and canny play as well as composure.

However, there’s an attacking midfielder that has been forgotten in Arsenal football club. He started his career in 1998 in his hometown club, Sparta Prague making 42 league apperances scoring 8 goals. He was sold to last season’s Bundesliga champions, Borussia Dortmund for a fee of £12.5m and he amassed 149 league appearances and scored 20 goals. In his time at Dortmund, he won the Bundesliga in 2002. Before the 2006 World Cup that took place in Germany, Arsenal bought him for £10.25m and he left the Arsenal faithful drooling with his thunderous surface-to-goal missile against USA.

He opened his Arsenal account in the 2006/07 season with a screamer against Hamburger SV in a game Farmer Eboue also opened his Arsenal account. He played 26 league games in his first season at Arsenal and scored 3 goals. He also scored two wonderful goals against Liverpool that season. In his second season with Arsenal, he became a core member of that Wenger’s 4-4-2 squad that almost won the league but capitulated after Eduardo’s horrific injury at St. Andrews. When Arsenal played Newcastle in January, he suffered a hamstring injury that lasted for two pregnancy periods. The injury also made him miss the European Championships that summer.

He made his long awaited comeback in the 2009/10 campaign and his versatility ensured that he was used in many positions across the midfield. Last season, he was reduced to meager league and cup appearances but he managed to score his first goal since the Feudal age with a header against Leyton Orient. With player departures being the order of the day, Tomas Rosicky was shortlisted by the media Vultures as one of the players that would leave Arsenal but he has said that Wenger has no intention of selling him.

Rosicky maybe considered as a fringe player at Arsenal but he takes the humble approach by sitting on the bench when he’s not playing without complaining. He says,

On Monday, I am starting pre-season with Arsenal. Before vacation I was speaking with coach Wenger and he told me he counted on my services and that there was no intention of selling me. I want to achieve something with Arsenal.

Selling a player like Rosicky is not necessary because on his day he can be a creative machine. He also has a style of play that’s similar to Nasri and he’s a very slippery and canny player. He has already said that he’ll be involved in Arsenal’s preseason adventure so I’ll be happy to see Arsenal’s No. 7 strut his stuff with his funny hair.

In other Arsenal news, Southampton have said that Arsenal is yet to bid for the Chambered Ox, Denilson could remain at Arsenal, Gary Cahill’s proposed move might be in doubt and Lady Bracewell-Smith’s claims suggest that Wenger isn’t entirely to blame for Arsenal’s misfortunes.

Shortly after leaving high school in the summer of 2004, I came across an Arsenal blog that I became addicted to. I visited the blog’s website more times than I visited Google and Hi5 combined together. Facebook wasn’t too popular at that point in time so Hi5 was the social networking site young blokes like me visited.

There’s nothing as good as waking up in the morning for a daily dose of Arsenal and he has been consistent enough to win the hearts of fervent Arsenal fans like me. I would have been doing the same but its not as easy as it seems. As a student that just graduated from college I have so many activities that hook me up so I blog about my Arsenal when I’m free enough. This is Gooner Daily, so publishing a post everyday gives me a certain degree of satisfaction even if it means denying a few hours of sleep.

Today’s Arseblog post is the most hilarious post I’ve read since the days Arthur Pendragon ruled Camelot. He started with a few questions but the comical part of his post was in his analysis of some players in the squad. The pick of the bunch includes,

Alex Song is in between a cage fighting with Samuel Eto’o, Song has instructed his agents to ‘look around’ for a new club as he’s concerned that Arsenal will sell Denilson. With the Brazilian around Song seems dynamic and energetic. If he goes he’s afraid he might look bad

Bacary Sagna will leave unless Arsene or Boro Primorac personally punch Squillaci in the face

Laurent Koscielny has apparently told friends he’s ‘home sick’ and feels that he’s being picked on by English referees…. He could be used as part of the Gervinho deal as Lille are in desperate need of a central defender who looks like an early drawing of Bart Simpson

Trust me, it’s worth a read.

Arseblog is Arsenal’s best blog…..I’ll get there someday.
