Arsenal defender William Saliba has insisted that the Manchester City game on Sunday is not the be-all and end-all for his side’s season despite it’s importance.

The Gunners have a Champions League game to focus on Thursday night at Atalanta but the noise around the big league game at the Etihad this weekend is louder.

Arsenal picked up four points from their two league games against Manchester City but it was still not enough to stop Pep Guardiola’s side from winning their fourth league title on the bounce.

Mikel Arteta’s side are again looking as worthy challengers for the Premier League champions this season and are expected to again go deep in the title race in the current season.

The pressure is on Arsenal to provide a statement result at the Etihad on Sunday but Saliba stressed that the season won’t end this weekend regardless of the result.

The Arsenal star insists the game won’t end up defining the season

The Frenchman admitted that his side are aware that Arsenal need to do more if they have to pip Manchester City this time around after competing with them in the last two seasons.

He also conceded that a win away at the Etihad could be important but it won’t end up defining the season as they will still need to beat other teams in the league.

Saliba stressed that regardless of the result on Sunday, the season won’t end with the game at the Etihad and a lot more would have to be done by either team to win the Premier League.

“Of course we want to compete against Manchester City like we have done in the last two seasons but we know we have to do more”, Saliba told Fox Sports Mexico.

“As I said, we have to compete against City but we also have to do it against other teams because it is not just about City.

“If you win against them but not against the others it doesn’t mean anything.

“So, of course, we want to win this weekend and we will give everything to win but it’s not the end on Sunday.”

Manchester City have made a flawless start to their season, winning all four of their Premier League games.
