Bolton Wanderers coach Ian Evatt has claimed that he won’t try to adopt any ‘alien’ tactics when his side take on Arsenal in the Carabao Cup third-round clash at the Emirates on Wednesday night.
Arsenal will open their Carabao Cup campaign this week when they host League One side Bolton at the Emirates and are heavy favourites to progress in the competition.
The Gunners have not done well in domestic cup competition since winning the FA Cup in 2020 with Mikel Arteta focusing on turning them into genuine Premier League contenders.
However, they are without a trophy in four years and many fans are keen to see the Gunners win a silverware this season.
Arsenal are expected to field a heavily rotated squad on Wednesday night but are still expected to take care of business against Bolton.
Bolton do not want to do something that is alien to their players at Arsenal
Evatt insisted that given how quickly his team would have to prepare for the game against Arsenal there is no time to coach a new set of tactics.
He stressed that his players need to be at their best and do the things that the team are known for but at the highest level possible.
The Bolton boss feels that there is no point in doing something that his players are not used to and is just hoping that they can stand up against one of the best teams in the world.
“The issue for us is that it is such a quick turnaround and that style would be completely different to the way we are coached”, Evatt was quoted as saying by The Bolton News.
“We’ve only got one day, really, to formulate a new plan, which is virtually impossible.
“We just have to go out there and be the best version of us – press the same way, play the same way, and yes we’re trying to do it against one of the best teams in the world and might get punished for that but there’s no point doing something completely alien.
“Our best learnings will be trying to play against the best players around.”
Arsenal are coming into the game on the back of a pulsating 2-2 draw at the Etihad against Manchester City.
