Jamie Carragher has conceded that he is not sure Arsenal have enough quality in their forward line to score goals consistently to win the Premier League if they don’t continue to make the most of set-piece situations.
Arsenal have scored consistently from set-piece situations this season with Gabriel Magalhaes scoring both against Tottenham and Manchester City from attacking corners.
The Gunners decided against signing a striker after missing out on Benjamin Sesko in the summer and many believe they missed a trick in the transfer window by not bringing in a centre-forward.
While Erling Haaland has scored ten of Manchester City’s 13 league goals this season, Arsenal have been dependent on several players to chip in and make the most of set-piece situations.
However, Carragher indicated that it can’t go on forever and pointed out that against Atalanta they failed to hit the back of the net once they failed to score from a set-piece.
Jamie Carragher insists Arsenal can’t just depend on set pieces to score goals
The former defender conceded that it is brilliant that Arsenal are very good from set-piece situations and difficult to defend against in such scenarios.
However, they will have games such as the Atalanta fixture where they won’t score from a corner or a free-kick and Carragher is not sure there is enough quality in the forward line to find the goals needed to win the Premier League.
“I think you are relying on set pieces that much”, Carragher said on The Overlap.
“Listen, it’s a part of the game and you guys are amazing at it but you can’t score from a set piece every game.
“Like the Atalanta game in midweek, you can have games in the league like that where you don’t score from a set-piece, is there enough quality?”
Gabriel, a centre-back, is the joint top scorer for Arsenal this season alongside Kai Havertz with two goals.
