Roy Keane lays into the Arsenal ‘mindset’

Former Premier League-winning captain Roy Keane has lashed out at Arsenal’s negative mindset and pointed out that their tactics with ten men against Manchester City was exactly the same as when they took on Brighton last month.

Arsenal were seconds away from beating Manchester City at the Etihad on Sunday but conceded a 98th-minute equaliser to only earn a point from a 2-2 draw.

The Gunners have been under fire for employing very cynical tactics and methods against Manchester City, especially the use of David Raya to waste time or catch a breather for the players.

Roy Keane has already criticised Arsenal for playing like a Championship side against Manchester City in the second half and was not impressed that they didn’t even try to make anything happen when they won the ball.

Former Gunner Ian Wright made the argument that since they were playing against Manchester City with ten men away from home, the tactics were justified.

However, Keane insisted that it was not just about Manchester City as Arsenal showed a mindset problem previously this season.

Arsenal did the same against Brighton at home

The north London club played out a 1-1 draw against Brighton at the Emirates just ahead of the international break.

The Gunners had to play more than 40 minutes with ten men after Declan Rice was sent off and managed to walk away with a point against the Seagulls.

Keane pointed out that Arsenal employed the same negative tactics and showed the same mindset even against Brighton at home.

“Go back three or four weeks ago”, Keane said on The Overlap.

“Arsenal, with 10 or 15 minutes to go, please people watch it, they did the same against Brighton.

“The goalkeeper going down against Brighton at home.

“So this thing about ‘they had to do that at Manchester City’, their mindset against Brighton at home was exactly the same.

“That’s my argument.”
