“It stays on the pitch” – Erling Haaland doesn’t want any problems with Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhães

Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhães and Erling Haaland had a heated battle in last month’s clash between the Gunners and Manchester City at the Etihad.

The game was feisty and a lot of players had words to say to each other during and after the game. Haaland opened the scoring in the first half, but two quick goals from Calafiori and Gabriel made it 2-1 before halftime.

Leandro Trossard was controversially sent off for kicking the ball away after a foul. Arsenal did their best to keep City out in the second half, but a late goal from John Stones in added time tied the game at 2-2.

Haaland speaks on Gabriel Magalhães incident

After the equalizer, the Norwegian striker threw the ball to the back of the head of Gabriel during the celebration. He then ran into Thomas Partey right after Arsenal kicked off, sparking a heated confrontation.

The striker says it was all in the heat of the moment:

“In the heat of the moment things happened in that game. What happens on the pitch, stays on the pitch. That’s how it is.”

After the game, Arsenal legend Ian Wright had some words for Erling Haaland. The former striker called out the Norwegian for being a coward.

‘The one thing that boiled me up properly was Haaland’s coward’s move,’ Wright said.

‘Throwing the ball at Gabi’s head when he’s not looking. When Gabi’s back’s turned to him. Real coward’s move. Gabi would look him in the eye, you know.

‘That’s what bothered me more than anything else. I thought you [Haaland] were bigger than that.’

Arsenal defender focused on return fixture at the Emirates

After the game, when asked about the incident on the pitch with Erling Haaland, Gabriel made a bold statement saying that Arsenal are ready and waiting for Manchester City at the Emirates in the return fixture.

“I don’t even remember this,” Gabriel remarked in an interview with TNT Sports Brazil.

“It’s normal, they were happy after scoring in the last minute. They were playing at home, so their duty was to win the match, but our team did really well to resist. It’s a battle, a war, so it’s normal to have provocative acts in football, it’s part of the game. Now this is over and we are waiting for them at our ground.”

If both teams are not drawn against each other in domestic cup competitions, their next big clash is in February at the Emirates. And with the incidents and words exchanged last month, it is set to be a fiery clash.
