Arsenal set to make midfielder one of the highest paid in the Premier League with new £60k-a-week deal

Arsenal are reportedly set to offer Ethan Nwaneri a new deal after his impress start to the season. The youngster has already featured in three games for the first team this campaign.

The 17-year old has showed his class and worth on the pitch after impressive cameos against Spurs and Leicester. Nwaneri also scored a brace in his first start of the season against Bolton Wanderers in the League Cup.

The youngster is highly rated for both club and country, having racked up over 30 youth caps for England.

Nwaneri scored in Wednesday’s game as England U19 lost 2-1 to Portugal. Joleon Lescott, who is now part of the technical team for the England men’s senior side, said the youngster has a lot of potential to be a star in the future.

“Yeah I’ve seen enough to know that he’s comfy you know what I mean? He’s going to be a baller, but that position was that left wing, right wing so it was Noni and Harvey, so should he play ahead of them?” Lescott said.

“As great as he is and as good as he’s going to be, there’s someone there who’s actually doing it.”

Arsenal to hand Ethan Nwaneri a new contract

According to a report from FootballTransfers, Ethan Nwaneri is set to sign a five year deal at the Emirates. The deal is said to be £60,000 a week, which would make him one of the highest paid teenagers in the Premier League.

The report claims Arsenal, and Mikel Arteta, want to tie the midfielder down while showing other academy players their potential future at the club. Jack Porter, Miles Lewis-Skelly and Josh Nichols were all on the pitch for Arsenal’s win over Bolton in the league cup.

Mikel Arteta making a statement with youngster’s new deal

After losing Chido Obi-Martin and Amario Cozier-Duberry to other Premier League clubs in the summer, keeping Nwaneri at the club would be a major boost.

Mikel Arteta is slowly developing Nwaneri to become a crucial part of the first team, with Thomas Partey and Jorginho not guaranteed to be at the club next summer.

Former Premier League midfielder Michael Brown has acknowledged how the Arsenal boss will play a key part in Nwaneri’s future:

“This will do him really good. We talked about having the experience around him, being able to play with Raheem Sterling, Declan Rice and others. He is going to learn so much and he has contributed in the game.

“He’s an unbelievably exciting talent and I think of all the coaches who want to bring on and develop young players, Mikel Arteta is the right person for him.

“A wonderful night for him and his family.”
