Arsenal academy forward, Tyreece John-Jules, that was recently released, has signed on a free transfer to EFL League One club, Crawley Town.
Last summer, Arsenal published a list of released players, which included Mohamed Elneny and Cedric Soares. The young English forward was part of that list, bringing his 15-year association with the club to an end. However, Arsenal sent John-Jules on loan to six different lower division English clubs in the last six seasons, with his latest stint being in Derby County.
Despite being released in June, John-Jules didn’t find a new club till October and that can be linked to the fact that he didn’t to recuperate from his devastating hamstring injury that ruled him out for a considerable chunk of last season. Thankfully, his agent was able to secure him a deal with Crawley Town, even if it’s just for the remainder of the 2024/25 season.
How did John-Jules fare on loan while at Arsenal?
Despite being eligible for first team action at Arsenal for six seasons, he never made an appearance for the club before he was released at the end of his contract. He was selected by Unai Emery in Arsenal’s pre-season United States tour squad in 2019, but he didn’t feature for the first team. His first loan stint to Lincoln City came under Mikel Arteta, with the new Arsenal gaffer hoping the youngster get some valuable game time under his belt. He played seven games for Lincoln City, scoring one goal. His stint at Lincoln City impressed the head coach, Michael Appleton, who touted John-Jules as a future Arsenal striker,
“It comes down to the trust Arsenal have in us as a club to look after him.
“Tyreece could be anything. Don’t be surprised you see him as Arsenal’s number nine in the future.
“That’s message we got from Arsenal when we were speaking to them. That’s how important they see this loan and why they felt they needed to get it right. We feel privileged that they’ve chosen us.
“He’s a bright kid, very humble. He’s got good pace. He wants to run in behind and is a fantastic finisher. He’s desperate to do well.”
After returning from Lincoln City, he was shipped out to Doncaster Rovers, making 21 appearances, scoring five goals. After two spells in League One clubs, John-Jules made the step up to Blackpool in the Championship for a season-long loan, but he returned in January after the club cut the loan short. Arsenal secured a move for John-Jules to Sheffield Wednesday, but he made only one appearance.
Two seasons ago, he moved to Ipswich Town and featured consistently for the Tractor Boys and last season, he played for Derby County and suffered a long-term injury that cut his loan short, as he returned to Arsenal to rehabilitate and recuperate.
I’d expect John-Jules to do well in Crawley Town and hopefully he would stay beyond this campaign.
