Shock club makes move for Arsenal star

Arsenal have moved a lot of attacking pieces around since the start of 2023. Key players like Leandro Trossard and Kai Havertz joined the team with a whole host of departures.

This summer alone, the gunners moved Emile Smith Rowe, Reiss Nelson and Fabio Vieira. With Smith Rowe being the only player who left on a permanent deal. The former academy graduate said he accepted to leave the club to be ‘happy’ again.

The only attacking signing added this past summer was Raheem Sterling on loan from Chelsea. Mikel Arteta brought the 29-year old to North London because of their time working together at Manchester City.

There have been a few players on the fringes of the first team this season at the Emirates. Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko have not really been involved this season.

Jesus has started four games since the season began. With Kai Havertz scoring the goals for Mikel Arteta, the Brazilian has had to play out wide when he has started games.

Palmeiras reportedly made a formal offer to sign Gabriel Jesus but the move was rejected by Arsenal. The Brazilian club’s president Leila Pereira explained: “Gabriel Jesus is not coming. We got in touch with Arsenal, and they said ‘Leila, there are no conditions whatsoever. We are not going to negotiate the player.’

“The subject is closed.”

Jesus played for Palmeiras for two seasons before moving to England to join Manchester City. The Brazilian club were looking to boost their squad for next year’s FIFA Club World Cup.

Should the club have let Gabriel Jesus go?

Letting one of your most experienced players leave before the season starts would have been a big mistake. Despite not being fit last year, Jesus stepped up when needed.

Ian Wright asked the fans to be patient and support Gabriel Jesus this season:

‘Arsenal are at a certain level now but we will definitely need him at some stage so I think it’s important in this moment for the Arsenal fans to support him.

‘They have to get behind him. Don’t be frustrated with the way he’s playing, he’s trying so hard at the moment and we’re going to need him.’
