Arsenal has been on the spotlight following the update that Sporting Director, Edu Gaspar, is set to leave the club to join the Marinakis Group of Companies.
This news caught everyone connected with Arsenal by surprise and as expected, the only way is forward, as the Gunners have no other choice but to source for a replacement for the Sporting Director that has served with exemplary class.
Thoughts on Edu Gaspar’s potential replacements
A couple of figureheads have been mentioned as potential replacements, with ex-Gunner, Tomas Rosicky, who is currently the Sporting Director at Sparta Prague, has some obvious connections to the club, but a part of me believes that Arsenal wouldn’t want to roll on the sentiment wagon on such an important position in the club.
The Gunners need a man that can do the business, not like Raul Sanllehi hopefully, but play an important part in identifying the club’s transfer targets and getting the deals over the line. Someone who isn’t afraid to push the envelope for both incoming and outgoing deals with the club’s best interests certainly at heart.
Roberto Olabe is currently a name doing the rounds for the potential Sporting Director role at Arsenal, especially with the man announcing to Real Sociedad that he will be leaving at the end of the season. Olabe and Mikel Arteta share the same roots and he’s renowned for being the spearhead behind the sales of Martin Odegaard, Alexander Isak and most recently, Mikel Merino. It’s also believed that Olabe will be the one to plant the seeds for the potential sale of Martin Zubimendi to the highest bidder in either January or maybe, next summer.
Another prominent name mentioned is Thiago Scuro, As Monaco’s CEO. Monaco has had some connections with Arsenal with the likes of legendary manager, Arsene Wenger, Thierry Henry and even Emmanuel Adebayo?r.
Josh Kroenke and the higher ups will have ample time to sort this out, as I don’t expect Edu to leave till the end of the current season.
