Arsenal has had some bad luck with one of their star defenders that has struggled to stay fit since his arrival in 2021.
Season after season, there is always one major injury for Takehiro Tomiyasu. Just when I expressed my delight of Takehiro Tomiyasu returning to action after his substitute appearance in the win over Southampton, it has been reported that he has suffered a setback and is set to be out for a considerable chunk of time.
Tomiyasu has aggravated the knee injury he suffered in his cameo appearance, which is very saddening. The Japanese star’s career at Arsenal has been blighted by injuries and judging from Arsenal’s recruitment in recent season has shown that the Gunners have moved on from him. When you add the unfortunate news that Ben White will be out for months following groin surgery, the Gunners are desperately short at right back, with Jurrien Timber and potentially, Thomas Partey, available for selection.
In his latest press conference ahead of the Nottingham Forest game, Arteta shared his thoughts on the Tomiyasu injury situation,
“No. He is going to be away now for a few weeks to continue with his treatment and as well change a little bit the environment, because psychologically it has been really, really tough for him – as you can imagine.
“He is a guy that the only thing he wants to do is work 24 hours to get better and he feels terrible when he is not fit. It’s a real shame, so we are going to give him the best opportunity to try out that kind of thing.
“If it can trigger something, unlock something and try to help him, to have him as quick as possible back – but I think we need to be patient.”
Arsenal may sell Tomiyasu
In three years at Arsenal, Takehiro Tomiyasu has played in only 65 games and has had a major injury in pretty much every season.
According to Tribal Football, Arsenal may be considering selling the Japanese fullback. There has been considerable interest from a host of Serie A clubs, and with Tomiyasu playing for Bologna before joining the Gunners, he will have no problems with adaptation moving back to the Italian league.
