Christian Norgaard Eyes Emotional Return After Leaving Arsenal

Christian Norgaard

Christian Norgaard has confirmed his long-term ambition to return to Danish football, revealing that Brondby will be his preferred destination once his career in England comes to a close.

The experienced midfielder joined Arsenal this summer after discussions with manager Mikel Arteta, leaving Brentford despite having signed a new two-year deal earlier in the year. Norgaard explained that the opportunity to compete in the Champions League was a key factor in his decision to move.

Nonetheless, the Dane is aware that his time in the Premier League is temporary and has already started planning an eventual return to Denmark.

“When I one day return to Denmark, it will be Brondby,” Norgaard told Ekstra Bladet.

“Brondby is a club that I developed a special connection to when I played for the club. That’s why I can’t see myself playing for other Danish clubs.”

From Lyngby to London

Norgaard’s journey began at Lyngby, before a brief stint in Germany with Hamburg.

He then moved to Brondby, where he spent almost five years establishing himself before making the switch to Italy with Fiorentina and eventually joining the Premier League.

Despite recently expressing his desire to one day rejoin Brondby, he stressed that he is focused on his current club, having only just arrived at Arsenal.

“Whether it will be two or three years at Arsenal has not been decided, but we will return to Denmark when the contract expires,” Norgaard told Bold last week.

“I can guarantee that Arsenal will be my last club abroad. I still want to return to Brondby when my contract with Arsenal expires.”

Settling into Arsenal

Norgaard’s start at Arsenal has been disrupted by injury.

A knock prevented him from featuring in the club’s first four Premier League matches, but he recently played the full 90 minutes in the EFL Cup win over Port Vale.

He also appeared as a stoppage-time substitute in Arsenal’s Champions League victory against Athletic Club.

Last season, the defensive midfielder made 34 Premier League appearances for Brentford, scoring five goals and registering four assists, showcasing his ability to contribute both defensively and offensively.

“My contract is for two years with an option for an additional year,” Norgaard added.

“And I would be happy to stay at Arsenal for the extra year if things develop in that direction. If it turns out that it wasn’t the right fit, then we’ll return to Denmark after two years.”
