Barcelona are pushing to sign Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United during the summer transfer window, according to reports.
Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo claims that Barcelona’s sporting director Deco has already travelled to London to begin transfer negotiations over a deal.
Gordon, who is 25 years old and an England international, is reportedly ready to make the move to the Spanish champions if the two clubs can reach an agreement.
The Newcastle attacker has recorded 22 goal contributions this season, establishing himself as one of the most productive wide players in the league.
Barcelona are said to be targeting Gordon to add depth to their attacking unit, with his ability to play on the flanks and through the centre making him an attractive option.
Liverpool and Bayern Munich have also been credited with an interest in the 25-year-old, but Gordon is understood to favour a move to Barcelona over other potential destinations.
The visit from Barcelona officials is reported to have played a significant role in convincing Gordon that the Nou Camp is the right next step in his career.
Gordon is a lifelong Liverpool fan and has been linked with a move to Anfield in recent months, particularly following the departure of Mohamed Salah, leaving them in need of flank reinforcements.
Newcastle will be desperate to keep hold of their best attacking player, with the club having already endured a difficult season, and losing Gordon would represent a major blow.
However, the deal is far from complete, with Barcelona known to be operating with limited financial resources, and Newcastle likely to demand a premium fee for one of their prized assets.
It remains to be seen whether the Spanish club can meet Newcastle’s valuation and finalise a transfer that would see Gordon leave the Premier League for La Liga this summer.
