Chelsea Looking To Sell Alejandro Garnacho For £40m After Disappointing Debut Season

>

Chelsea are reportedly offering Alejandro Garnacho to potential buyers this summer, with a fee of around £40m being sought for the Argentine winger.

That figure matches what the Blues paid to sign him from Manchester United last year, though his time in west London has fallen well short of expectations so far.

Garnacho has managed just one Premier League goal across the entire season, a return that has prompted former professional Glen Johnson to label the transfer a clear mistake.

Liam Rosenior had appeared willing to keep faith in the 21-year-old during his time as manager at Stamford Bridge, but his brief reign was cut short last month.

Chelsea News writer Simon Phillips reported via Substack that the club are now actively offering Garnacho out to other clubs ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window.

Napoli are mentioned as one prospective buyer likely to be contacted, given their previously documented interest in the former Manchester United youngster.

Those at Stamford Bridge are said to be left disappointed with the winger’s performances, with a belief emerging that it would be best for all parties if he departed this summer.

Nicky Butt, who worked with Garnacho during his time in youth development at Manchester United, had some unflattering words regarding the player’s character and professionalism.

Butt described him as “always a bit standoffish” and having “a high opinion of himself”, even going as far as labelling his attitude as a “disgrace” on The Good, The Bad and The Football podcast.

The Argentine has done little during his debut season to change perceptions or generate positive headlines at his new club since making the switch from Old Trafford.

New Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso is expected to put his own stamp on the squad at Stamford Bridge, and Garnacho could be among the first players moved on under the new regime.

If Chelsea can find a buyer willing to match their asking price, a deal is likely to move quickly given the club’s apparent desire to offload him without delay.

Selling Garnacho after just one season would represent an admission that bringing him to west London in the first place may have been a misjudged decision by the club’s hierarchy.
