The Los Angeles Clippers are facing a significant offseason decision over the future of forward Kawhi Leonard, who has attracted considerable trade interest.
Leonard had already been linked to the Miami Heat and Golden State Warriors ahead of the latest NBA trade deadline in February.
Now, the Detroit Pistons have entered the picture as a potential destination, according to Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints.
Siegel reported the development in his latest NBA mock draft, writing that the Pistons are among the teams expected to make inquiries about Leonard’s availability.
“One of the teams expected to inquire about Leonard’s availability, outside of those already mentioned as suitors from the trade deadline in February, is the Detroit Pistons, sources said,” Siegel wrote.
The Clippers reportedly received multiple trade offers for Leonard at the latest deadline, and those discussions are expected to intensify as the NBA Draft approaches.
Detroit had a strong regular season, finishing as the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference, raising expectations heading into the playoffs.
However, the Pistons were ultimately eliminated by the Cleveland Cavaliers in seven games during the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
A major offseason priority for Detroit is deciding whether to offer big man Jalen Duren a new contract, though the team’s general manager has signalled that getting a deal done is the likely outcome.
For the Clippers, the decision centres on whether to move Leonard or retain him for at least one more season as a two-time Finals MVP capable of attracting significant interest around the league.
Multiple teams are expected to place calls to Los Angeles as the offseason progresses and conversations around Leonard’s future continue to develop.
