Alex Karaban Leads Six-Man Kings Workout As Donte DiVincenzo And Thomas Sorber Face Uncertain Returns

UConn forward Alex Karaban headlines a group of six prospects scheduled to work out for the Sacramento Kings on Friday.

Karaban, a senior who was automatically eligible for the draft, is projected 31st overall in the latest mock draft from ESPN’s Jeremy Woo.

He also ranks 30th on ESPN’s overall big board, making him the highest-rated prospect among the six players set to work out for Sacramento.

The other five prospects invited to the Kings workout are Ryan Conwell of Louisville, Otega Oweh of Kentucky, Toibu Lawal of Virginia Tech, Tyler Nickel of Vanderbilt, and Mark Mitchell of Missouri.

All five are ranked inside ESPN’s top 100, with Conwell sitting at No. 36 as the only other player in the group ranked inside the top 50.

Sacramento holds the seventh, 34th, and 45th picks heading into next month’s draft, giving the franchise multiple opportunities to add young talent.

The Golden State Warriors hosted six prospects for a pre-draft workout on Thursday, including Trey Campbell, Oscar Cluff, Carson Cooper, Jaden Henley, Elias Ralph, and Jalen Warley.

Purdue center Oscar Cluff ranked highest among the Warriors workout group at No. 63 on ESPN’s board, with Grand Canyon’s Jaden Henley also inside the top 100 at No. 72.

Timberwolves coach Chris Finch described Donte DiVincenzo as the “heat and soul of so many things we do” following the veteran guard’s torn right Achilles tendon suffered in the first round of the playoffs.

The injury is a significant blow for the 29-year-old, who is likely to miss most or all of next season while entering the final year of his contract, which will pay him $12.5MM in 2026/27.

Teammate Jaden McDaniels spoke warmly about DiVincenzo’s attitude during his recovery, saying: “He’s trying to get back as soon as possible, and I think he’s going to have a great recovery, the way he’s treating it and the attitude he has about it, getting right, getting better, it’s just great to see.”

McDaniels added: “I mean, we all love Donte. Hopefully he’s going to have a speedy recovery.”

Oklahoma City Thunder big man Thomas Sorber will miss his entire rookie season due to a torn ACL, but remains engaged with the team from the sidelines and hopes to play in Summer League in July.

The 20-year-old center, who was the 15th overall pick in last year’s draft, explained his approach to staying sharp despite being unable to play this season.

“I’m still reading the scouting report. I’m still seeing who’s a hot shooter, who to worry about, who not to worry about,” Sorber said. “Just trying to get the game plan in my head so when I am ready next year to play, then I’ll be able to, you know, already have it under my belt.”
