LA Galaxy have officially signed Spanish midfielder Sergi Roberto on a contract running through the 2028 season, with an option for an additional year beyond that.
The 34-year-old arrives in Carson after spending the past two seasons in Italy’s Serie A with Como 1907 following an 18-year stint at Barcelona that ended in 2024.
Roberto made 37 appearances across all competitions for Como, contributing a goal and an assist during that time in the Italian top flight.
He joined Como in August 2024 shortly after the club earned promotion to Serie A, and played a role in helping them secure a top-ten finish in their first season back.
In 2025-26, Roberto was part of the Como side that achieved the first UEFA Champions League qualification in the club’s history, a remarkable milestone for the Italian outfit.
He also scored in Como’s 3-1 victory over Fiorentina, a result that secured the club’s first appearance in the Coppa Italia quarterfinals in 40 years.
Galaxy general manager Will Kuntz was effusive in his praise for the signing, highlighting the experience and character Roberto brings to the squad.
“Sergi brings a combination of leadership, technical quality, tactical intelligence and championship experience that few players have,” Kuntz said in a statement. “He has been a key member of some of the greatest teams of his generation and understands not only what it takes to win, but what it means to be a winning team. Sergi’s character, positional versatility, and leadership will be invaluable.”
During his time at Barcelona, Roberto scored 19 goals in 373 first-team appearances and captained the club during the 2023-24 season.
He accumulated 25 trophies with Barcelona across all competitions, including seven LaLiga titles, two UEFA Champions League crowns, six Copa del Rey trophies, and two FIFA Club World Cups.
Roberto is perhaps best remembered for his iconic 2017 goal against Paris Saint-Germain that completed one of the greatest Champions League comebacks in history, a stunning 6-1 triumph at the Camp Nou.
Despite his extraordinary club career, Roberto won only 11 international caps for Spain, with competition fierce from world-class midfielders such as Andrés Iniesta, Xavi, and Sergio Busquets during his prime years.
At LA Galaxy, Roberto will line up alongside German star Marco Reus in the midfield and will also reunite with former Barcelona teammate Riqui Puig, who is expected to return in 2027 after two injury-hit seasons.
Roberto becomes LA’s third signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Japanese striker Ky?go Furuhashi and Mexican winger Hirving Lozano as the club looks to bolster its squad.
The Galaxy currently sit outside the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs positions at the Leagues Cup pause, giving the club added motivation to hit the ground running when league action resumes.
