Son Heung-min And Denis Bouanga Fire LAFC To Commanding 4-0 Victory Over Sporting Kansas City

LAFC delivered a ruthless performance on Saturday night, thrashing Sporting Kansas City 4-0 to record their fourth consecutive victory at home.

Denis Bouanga was the standout player on the night, finishing with two goals and cementing himself as one of MLS’s most dangerous forwards this season.

Son Heung-min also got on the scoresheet, netting in his third consecutive match since the World Cup break to further fuel LAFC’s impressive run of form.

David Martínez added a third before half-time, capping a dominant first-half display that effectively ended the contest well before the hour mark.

Bouanga then sealed the rout in the 85th minute, taking his tally to 10 goals in just 17 matches this season in outstanding personal form.

With both Son and Bouanga scoring in every game since the World Cup break, LAFC have outscored their last three opponents by a remarkable combined margin of 10-1.

The result lifted LAFC level with Vancouver and San Jose at the top of the Western Conference standings, all three clubs sitting on 33 points and 10 victories.

Hugo Lloris barely broke a sweat throughout the contest, making just one save to claim his MLS-leading 10th clean sheet of the campaign.

Sporting Kansas City were so thoroughly outclassed that they failed to register a single shot on target until the 77th minute, highlighting the gulf between the two sides.

Son opened the scoring in the fifth minute, chasing down a lead pass from Mark Delgado, shaking off defender Wyatt Meyer, and firing home his third goal of the season.

The former Tottenham star had gone his first 13 matches without a goal for LAFC despite leading MLS in assists, but he has looked rejuvenated since the World Cup break.

Bouanga doubled the lead in the 37th minute, controlling Mathieu Choinière’s long pass, shrugging off a defender, and finishing with characteristic composure and directness.

Martínez then buried his sixth goal of the season after Bouanga’s assist sent him free on a counterattack, with Tyler Boyd later teeing up Bouanga’s second late on.

LAFC travel to face Vancouver Whitecaps next Saturday in what promises to be a pivotal Western Conference clash, while Sporting Kansas City host Houston Dynamo on the same evening.
