Victor Osimhen Move Edges Closer As Arsenal Target Eight Transfers In Crucial Week

Arsenal are heading into a pivotal week both on and off the pitch as they prepare to defend their Premier League title in earnest.

The Gunners open their 2026/27 campaign on Friday, hosting Frank Lampard’s Coventry City at Emirates Stadium in what promises to be a highly anticipated curtain-raiser.

It has been a productive summer for Mikel Arteta’s side, with several key additions already secured before the new season begins.

Bruno Guimaraes arrived from Newcastle as the club’s top summer target, joining winger Christos Tzolis and goalkeeper Illan Meslier at the club.

Defender Piero Hincapie also made his loan move from Bayer Leverkusen permanent, further strengthening the squad ahead of the new campaign.

Despite the activity, gaps remain in the Arsenal squad, most notably up front, where the club has been searching for a clinical striker all summer.

After missing out on Vinicius Junior and reportedly Julian Alvarez, Arsenal have turned their attention to Victor Osimhen, who has long dreamed of playing in the Premier League.

Arsenal are considered the frontrunners to land the Nigerian forward, though any deal would cost at least £58 million and potentially significantly more.

The move could be facilitated by outgoing transfers, with Galatasaray keen on both Gabriel Martinelli and Ethan Nwaneri as potential arrivals from the Emirates.

Martinelli has reportedly indicated he does not want to join the Turkish club, but Arsenal remain open to offers for the Brazilian winger and left him out of their Community Shield squad.

Arteta has publicly stated he wants Nwaneri to remain at Arsenal, but acknowledged he will ultimately do what is best for the young player’s development.

Defensively, Arsenal are also in the market after William Saliba was ruled out for a lengthy period, with Ezri Konsa identified as a primary target to fill the void.

The club are not expected to sign two defenders in this window, meaning it will likely be a single addition to shore up the backline in Saliba’s absence.

In midfield, Brighton’s Jack Hinshelwood has emerged as a target, with the promising young player potentially on his way to north London.

Meanwhile, Reiss Nelson could be on his way out, with West Ham in talks to complete a move for the forward before the week is out.
