Video footage from after the match showed Messi pointing his finger directly at Garber while the two engaged in what appeared to be a heated conversation.
After the initial exchange, Messi walked away from Garber, only to circle back moments later and point his finger at the commissioner a second time.
A separate clip captured Garber pointing his finger back at Messi as the Argentine superstar walked away, shaking his head as he departed.
The nature of the disagreement remains unclear, and MLS declined to comment on the matter when approached by reporters after the game.
Inter Miami also did not immediately respond to a request for comment, leaving the cause of the confrontation a subject of significant speculation.
The tense exchange came on an otherwise celebratory night for Inter Miami, who defeated Cruz Azul 2-0 to claim the Campeones Cup trophy.
The occasion was made even more remarkable by Messi scoring the 100th goal of his Inter Miami career during the match, a significant personal milestone.
The victory handed Inter Miami yet another piece of silverware, continuing a trophy-laden period for the club since Messi’s arrival three years ago.
Miami have now won the Leagues Cup in 2023, the Supporters’ Shield in 2024, and the MLS Cup in 2025, building one of the most decorated short-term runs in the league’s history.
Messi signed a three-year extension with Inter Miami in 2025 that will keep him playing in MLS through the 2028 season, securing his future in the league.
However, Wednesday’s postgame footage suggests that his relationship with the league’s commissioner is not without its tensions, and this is reportedly not the first public disagreement between the two figures.
