Every Nigerian football fan geared themselves up to witness Africa’s own version of Manchester United vs Manchester City in Vicarage Road but the riots ongoing in London halted the game between Nigeria and Ghana. While we waited to see Osaze and the rest of the Eagles strut their stuff, the turmoil in England’s capital continued and it was more or less a security threat to everyone involved. The gooners also had it in mind to see Robin van Persie in action but England’s friendly against the Netherlands was also cancelled. With Premier League football just days away, I hope that this issue would be resolved because it’s too early to start talking about a game in hand.
Moving over to Arsenal news, Ryo Miyaichi has been granted a British work permit and he’ll definitely be listed in the 25-man squad list that will represent Arsenal this season. The way Wenger has handled the Miyaichi situation can be likened to the way he handled Vela when he was his age but the Aztec Warrior had to settle for loan moves in Spain before playing for the Gunners in the 2008/09 season. In my post published on Saturday, I wrote a few words on Miyaichi and I got a comment from a gooner that made me swallow the words faster than eba. I wrote,
“Miyaichi was very impressive in the match against Malaysia XI but I feel that an extra season out on loan would do wonders to his confidence as well as give him full match fitness. When he arrived last winter, he was sent on loan to Feyernoord and he excelled in De Kuip so it would be in the club’s best interests to send him back to the club where he had his first stint of European football”
After reading this post, Mr. Kiku Ssekawata wrote,
“I can’t believe you are suggesting that Miyaichi to go out on loan again! That boy would do a great job for Arsenal this season, first coming off the bench, and, if the likes of Arshavin continue with their disappointing displays, force his way into the starting XI. He is the type of player Arsenal have not had in a long long time, a typical left winger, who can do a great job for Marouane Chamakh, especially when things are not going according to plan. He has got devastating pace, great dribbling skills and a fearless attitude that makes him able to take on players. This is why Wenger is very desperate to secure for him a work permit, because he is too good to be sent back on loan”.
From Mr. Ssekawata’s analysis of the bloke and what I’ve watched so far, Ryo Miyaichi will be a bright spark this season but he’ll have to settle for a place on the bench but I’m very sure that the Carling Cup would be his avenue to success.
Cesc Fabregas has been the subject of speculation regarding a move to Barcelona and it seems as if that move to Planet Catalunya is on the cards but Arsenal has included him and Nasri in the squad that will play Udinese in the Champions League play-off. His inclusion would make him cup-tied if he secures a move to Barca but I wouldn’t care less because it’s what they deserve for being cunthounds all summer long. They treated Fabregas and Arsenal like dirt so I don’t expect the Gunners to show them any mercy.
Nasri on the other hand is another player whose future still hangs on the balance. The media Vultures have reported that Nasri has told everyone that he’ll stay at the club but he will not sign a new deal. The message seems vivid enough but if things go Arsenal’s way, he could turn the tables and get his signature on the contract that Arsenal has offered to him.
It’s also odd to know that Nasri’s national team manager, Laurent Blanc had something to say about his player’s situation.
“As far as I know, he’s still an Arsenal player at the moment. I know that he’s in talks with his club, not about signing a new contract but to find a new club because he told me that he’s not signing”
These words show Nasri’s seriousness concerning his contract situation but I’ll keep my fingers crossed even if Chamakh believes that Nasri and Fabregas would leave the club.
Moving over to transfer news, Aston Villa and Hamburg have joined the list of clubs that want Bendtner’s signature. There were reports that B52 is already on his way to Portugal but with his white flag still waved, more teams will have on Arsenal’s shores even though no official bid has been made to the club yet.
Per Mertesacker was heavily linked to Arsenal last winter but Wenger folded his arms as the month passed without any transfer activity and it took its toll on the club because the fans have pressed the panic button so hard that it has sprang out of the remote control. However, there are emerging reports that Mertesacker is literally begging Arsenal to come and buy him. As a player, Mertesacker has many strengths that can be vital to Arsenal FC. For starters, his height ensures that he’ll be a big force to be reckoned with in the air and that will be very vital in set pieces, both attacking and defensive. He’s also a very composed individual that has an amazing sense of positioning. His major flaw is his lack of pace though.
In other Arsenal news, Vermaelen hopes for a solid season opener, Miquel hopes that this season will be his breakthrough season and Aaron Ramsey has sent a message of support to his fellow Welshman Morgan Stoddart who broke his leg in a Rugby game.
