‘I have a new home’ – Aaron Ramsdale on leaving Arsenal

Aaron Ramsdale made significant contributions at the Emirates

Aaron Ramsdale left Arsenal this summer after spending three years at the club. The keeper joined Southampton on a permanent deal this summer.

The 26-year old joined Arsenal in 2021 from Sheffield United, who were relegated that season. Ramsdale served up very impressive performances as Arsenal finished fifth and second in the Premier League.

Aaron Ramsdale has ‘no bitter feelings’ towards Arsenal

After featuring in only six league games during the 2023/24 season, Ramsdale was in limbo at Arsenal during the summer. Newly-promoted Southampton eventually paid around €21.4million to sign the England international.

Ramsdale says he has nothing against Mikel Arteta and Arsenal as he looks forward to life with his new club:

“No, I’ve been around football long enough that the manager’s decision is the manager’s decision.

“I tried my best to change his mind and force my way back in. His mind was set and at the same time David had a great season.” the Saints’ keeper said on Talksport.

“You can have all the upset or qualms about being taken out but when someone else is delivering, you’ve just got to take it on the chin.

“It was tough but I’ve found a new home and I’m looking forward to playing again. You move on, there’s no bad blood and you’ve got to restart your career again.”

“It was a really difficult season but my character and personality, I started the game by enjoying it but when it gets taken away, it’s tough.

“That’s why unfortunately you have to move on but I’m happy about where I’m at now.”

The signing of David Raya was the beginning of the end for Ramsdale. The Spanish keeper became Arsenal’s number one after joining the club and his performances since arriving have justified Aaron Ramsdale being on the bench.

Keeper’s relationship with Mikel Arteta is “good”

Aaron Ramsdale says his relationship with Mikel Arteta is good, and that the Arsenal coach reached out to him last week:

“Yeah, I only spoke to him last week,” Ramsdale added. “What he did for me in my time at Arsenal, I can only thank him for and he thanked me for my contribution as well.

“As a football club, getting back into the Champions League and pushing for a trophy and ultimately as manager’s do they often make decisions that upset people. He made that decision, but we still speak

“I’m looking forward to getting some games under my belt here. We play them in a few weeks time which will be a nice return.”
