Mikel Arteta to sign new long term deal

Mikel Arteta has previously blocked attempts from FC Barcelona to sign Thomas Partey

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has reportedly put pen to paper on a new contract to stay at the Emirates stadium.

According to The Athletic, the London club have agreed a new deal with their manager, that will keep Arteta at the club until 2027.

The Spaniard will continue at Arsenal, where he has been for the last five years. Arteta joined the club in 2019, after spending a few years as assistant coach to Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.

The 42-year old has achieved a lot in his short managerial career, considering he retired from playing in 2016. Arteta has won an FA Cup and two community shields with the Gunners. The Spaniard was voted Best Premier League coach at the 2023/24 Globe Soccer Awards.

Rebuilding the Arsenal

Before Arteta took over Arsenal in 2019, the London club had not reached the Champions League group stages since 2016. The Gunners have now made the competition two seasons in a row. Arteta exceeded a lot of expectations winning the FA Cup in his first season as Arsenal boss.

Currently; the Gunners are seen as one of the best teams in the league and have pushed current Premier League holders Manchester City to the wire on more than one occasion. Arteta has also overseen the development of Bukayo Saka, who is now one of the best players in the country.

Jorginho praises Mikel Arteta mentality

One thing Mikel Arteta has brought to the club is a change in mentality. The team is now far from the state it was when the Spaniard took over. Arteta has also completely revamped the squad, offloading senior players who were underperforming and on massive wages in the team.

Arsenal midfielder Jorginho reflected on the change that Areta has brought to the club:

“The mentality now is different because you can see the hunger of wanting to win.

“The way you train every day, the information you have — even pictures at the training ground. Everything’s about winning.

“It’s really good as Mikel put up all these messages you see. It gets into your mind when you keep seeing them and you start to believe it.

“Then you get into the habit. You have the motivation and all we want to do is win.”

The news has been widely reported, and is yet to be announced as of this time. Arsenal face Tottenham in the North London derby this weekend, and the Gunners will be hoping the team will seal a week of good news with a win over their neighbors.

Arsenal will be without Martin Ødegaard and Mikel Merino due to injury, and Declan Rice due to suspension.
