Exceptional evening – Atalanta CEO comments on welcoming Arsenal to renovated stadium

Atalanta CEO Luca Percassi is looking forward to an ‘exceptional evening’ at their renovated stadium against Arsenal in the Champions League on Thursday night.

Arsenal beat Tottenham in the north London derby on Sunday and are high on confidence ahead of starting their Champions League campaign in Bergamo this week.

They will be taking on an Atalanta side who beat Fiorentina 3-2 in their first game back at their renovated home, the Gewiss Stadium, at the weekend.

Arsenal remain one of the underperformers of Europe and have never won the European Cup or the Champions League and Mikel Arteta is keen to right that record going forward.

However, Atalanta are tricky customers and did beat Liverpool last season on their way to winning the Europa League in the 2023/24 season.

Facing Arsenal will be another exceptional evening in Atalanta’s history – Club CEO

Percassi conceded that it is going to be a tough game for Atalanta given the strength and depth of the Arsenal team coming to Bergamo on Thursday night.

However, he pointed out that Atalanta have faced many strong teams in Europe in the last few years and they are prepared to have another great European night.

The Atalanta CEO admitted that Thursday evening will be another glorious chapter in the club’s history given it will be their first European game at their renovated stadium.

“We’re playing against a very strong team, but we’ve faced many in recent years”, Percassi said on the Radio Rai program La Politica nel Pallone (via Italian outlet Tutto Mercato).

“The context will be fantastic, the new stadium is a masterpiece.

“It will be yet another exceptional evening in the history of Atalanta and we are well aware that we’ll be facing a very strong team and therefore it will be very tough.”
