Not dark arts but winning football – Pundit backs Arsenal and Mikel Arteta

Dean Saunders has slammed Arsenal and Mikel Arteta’s critics for their dark arts accusation and insisted that the Gunners are only trying to find ways to win games.

Arsenal and Manchester City played out a pulsating 2-2 draw at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday but the Gunners were seconds away from winning the game.

The north London club have been accused of being the masters of the dark arts with many slamming them for trying to waste time and emotionally provoke their opponents with their antics.

Jamie Carragher pointed out that David Raya is being used to exploit rules regarding the medical treatment of goalkeepers.

Manchester City star John Stones insisted after the game that the Gunners have gotten used to finding cynical means to try and get desired results.

Arteta has brushed aside the accusations and insisted that he is only interested in discussing the facts about the games.

Saunders backs Arsenal and Mikel Arteta’s methods

Arsenal and Arteta have found support in Saunders and the pundit slammed everyone who are trying to insinuate that the Gunners are trying to find unfair ways to win games.

He insisted that professional football is all about finding ways to win games. Saunders stressed that footballers try to cheat every day in training to gain an advantage even over their teammates.

The former manager indicated that it’s the job of any manager or a professional player to make sure they play to win games.

“I just think it’s ridiculous what they are saying about Arteta and it’s just actually winning football and being a professional footballer”, Saunders said on talkSPORT.

“Do people not realise players cheat every day to win a five-a-side as it’s all about winning?

“You are just going to go down if you keep losing and you are just going to go up if you keep winning.”
