Rodri’s injury has meant Arsenal target Morten Hjulmand has emerged as an option for Manchester City ahead of the January transfer window.
The Manchester City midfielder suffered a serious knee injury in their 2-2 draw against Arsenal on Sunday and he is likely to be out for the rest of the season.
The defensive midfielder has been a massive part of the team and Manchester City are likely to find it hard to find a solution within their squad to replace him.
Pep Guardiola has sounded bullish about his side’s ability to compensate for Rodri’s loss but the club are likely to dip into their funds to bring in a defensive midfielder in the winter transfer window.
According to CaughtOffSide, Manchester City’s need for a defensive midfielder in January is likely to affect Arsenal’s transfer plans.
Arsenal could lose out on top midfield target to Manchester City
It has been claimed that Manchester City are interested in getting their hands on Sporting Lisbon captain Hjulmand.
The defensive midfielder has been on Arsenal’s radar and he has also been linked with a move to Premier League giants Manchester United.
However, Manchester City are in the mix and he has emerged as the main option for the Premier League champions as a cover for Rodri in their squad.
He has a £67m release clause in his contract but he is valued at around £50m by his Premier League suitors at this stage.
Hjulmund is the club captain at Sporting Lisbon but the midfielder has expressed a desire to move to the Premier League in the near future.
He could agitate for a transfer in January if one of his Premier League suitors make a formal offer to snare him away from Sporting Lisbon.
Barcelona also have their eyes on the player but he is likely to favour a move to the English top flight over other options in the winter window.
