Calafiori and White to Face Late Fitness Tests

Arsenal full backs, Riccardo Calafiori and Ben White, are set to face late fitness tests for Arsenal’s all-important Champions League clash against French champions, Paris St. Germain. Arsenal got a hard-earned point against Atalanta a couple of weeks ago, and Mikel Arteta will be willing to get points on the board.

Calafiori played very well in Arsenal’s late win over Leicesterand suffered a potential knee injury in the game. White, on the other hand, wasn’t available for selection, after Arteta confirmed that he was nursing a niggle. Calafiori was photographed wearing a support for the joint after the game and was in tears after the game.

Mikel Arteta’s pre-match press conference comments on Riccardo Calafiori and Ben White

As expected, Arteta was asked about the fitness of his players, and he stated that the team would need to review some players, but there are no major updates from the long-term absentees. When asked specifically about Calafiori and White,

“Those are the two players in contention, we have to review today. We didn’t do any training session yesterday, obviously he [Calafiori] was a bit emotional after the game, let’s see how it is today.”

For potential replacements, Jurrien Timber will be expected to reprise his role at right back, while Jakub Kiwior will deputize for Calafiori on the left. There is also the option of using Myles Lewis-Skelly that excelled admirably against Bolton. Lewis-Skelly was subbed around the hour mark, but Arteta confirmed that it was just cramps.
