He’s not mentioned – Ex-Arsenal chief picks out Edu for praise in club’s resurrection

Former Arsenal chief executive David Dein has insisted that sporting director Edu deserves massive credit for the resurrection of the Gunners in the last few years.

Mikel Arteta has been credited for turning things around at Arsenal in the last few years and turning them into credible Premier League title contenders.

The Spaniard arrived in Arsenal towards the end of 2019 and had no managerial experience but he was backed by the Gunners board and was shown the required amount of patience.

Sporting director Edu played a big role in getting Arteta to Arsenal and the duo have formed a strong partnership at the club over the years.

Arteta has been pivotal with his coaching and management at Arsenal but the Brazilian has played a big role behind the scenes and setting up proper recruitment structures.

Ex-Arsenal chief credits Edu for running things well behind the scenes

Dein stressed the importance of Edu’s role behind the scenes in helping Arteta with a proper structure to back the manager and the players.

He believes the former Arsenal star deserves credit for handling things at the club behind the curtains and insisted that what we see on the pitch is also a result of teamwork off it.

Dein insisted that recruitment, which involves both buying the right players and selling the ones they don’t need, is crucial to the success of any team in modern football.

“I also give a lot of credit to Edu”, Dean said on talkSPORT.

“He is not mentioned but ought to be, not just because I was involved in signing him when he came to be one of the ‘Invincibles’.

“It is a team effort behind what’s going on in the field of play, they are doing something well there in identifying the players, assembling the team, getting the right players and getting players out.

“That’s an art form.”
