William Saliba and Gabriel have been named by Real Madrid defender as two of the best defenders in Europe.
Arsenal have kept a clean sheet in five of their nine games played in all competitions. Mikel Arteta’s men recently held Manchester City to a draw while down to 10-men.
Bernardo Silva accused Arsenal of ‘not playing football’ in the 2-2 draw recently:
“There was only one team that came to play football,” Silva told TNT Brazil. “The other came to play to the limits of what was possible to do and allowed by the referee, unfortunately. But at the end we got a draw, the best we could get considering the context of the last moments of the match. We’re not happy as we wanted the three points, but personally I’m happy with the way we came to play and faced the game. I’m glad we always enter the pitch to try to win every match.”
The Gunners held Paris Saint-Germain to zero goals at the Emirates on Tuesday night. Before the game, the French champions had scored 20 goals in Ligue 1.
Antonio Rudiger names William Saliba and Gabriel as Europe’s best
Rudiger has lifted the Champions League with Real Madrid and Chelsea in recent years. The German defender was asked to name some of the top level defenders in Europe on the Inside Scoop podcast.
“Saliba and I like Gabriel from Arsenal as well. “If you see Arsenal, like the two centre backs who are playing together, they are doing since two years now, they’re doing an amazing job,”
“Like the transformation from Arsenal, that was a bit before and now, and those two are the pillar of it. You have with Gabriel the more aggressive leader and for example Saliba is, this brother plays clean. No, really, you have to give it to him. You know, he looks like a silent leader.”
Frank Lampard disagrees on high rating of Arsenal duo
Former Chelsea boss Frank Lampard on the other hand, does not believe Saliba and Gabriel are top level yet, and says they would need to win some major trophies to be considered the best.
“No, not yet. If they go and win two or three Premier Leagues and a Champions League then maybe you can compare them. Listen, I’m not putting them down. They are fantastic, young and they’re growing all the time,”
“It’s not fair to make that comparison because this is all ahead of them. But at this point, no. But what they’re doing at the minute is great things. But yeah, win some stuff, boys, and you can get in that conversation fully.”
