International Roundup: Trossard, Saliba, Calafiori, Raya, Kiwior, Merino

We had covered the international roundup on Saturday, as well as Declan Rice scoring for England on Sunday, while Bukayo Saka went home for further assessment of his injury.

Over the last two days, six Gunners were involved in international action, and we will be reviewing their performances in their respective games.

Riccardo Calafiori (Italy 4-1 Israel)

Calafiori played 90 minutes for Italy as a left center back alongside Alessandro Bastoni and Giovani di Lorenzo against Israel in Udine. It was a pretty much straightforward encounter for the Azzurri, running out as 4-1 winners, with goals from Mateo Retegui (penalty), two goals for Di Lorenzo and the clincher from Davide Frattesi.

Leandro Trossard and William Saliba (Belgium 1-2 France)

Trossard and Saliba played 90 minutes for their respective nations with Randall Kolo Muani scoring a brace that saw the visitors win the game. However, Belgium had a golden chance to get the lead when Saliba conceded a penalty, but Youri Tielemans blasted his spot kick over.

France punished Belgium for that miss when Kolo Muani scored the opener. Lois Openda equalized for Belgium but Muani scored what proved to be the winner with a penalty kick.

Jakub Kiwior (Poland 3-3 Croatia)

Jakub Kiwior played 90 minutes for Poland in their pulsating 3-3 draw with Croatia. It was a game that focused more on attack with the defending leaving a lot to be desired.

Poland captain, Piotr Zielinski, opened the scoring for the home side, but Croatia pegged Poland with a good goal from Borna Sosa. Peter Sucic made it two five minutes later and just two minutes after that Croatia made it three with a goal from Martin Baturina.

At the stroke of half time, Poland reduced the deficit with a goal from Nicola Zalewski. Poland made it three from Sebastian Szymanski.

Mikel Merino and David Raya (Spain 3-0 Serbia)

David Raya played 90 minutes for Spain, while Mikel Merino played 64 minutes in Spain’s routine win over Serbia.

Aymeric Laporte opened the scoring for Spain after a neat assist from Pedro Porro. Alvaro Morata had a chance to make it two but he missed his penalty. He made up for it though with the second goal on the night. Alex Baena scored the third with a superb free kick.

There were no injury concerns which was a huge positive.
