Arsenal had three players scheduled to represent their nations in the games played today, and all three got some minutes.
Arsenal already suffered a casualty in this international break the form of their talisman, Bukayo Saka, so Arteta would have been concerned and remained hopeful that his players will finish representing their nation unscathed.
Without further ado, let’s review the games, shall we?
Jakub Kiwior (Poland 1-3 Portugal)
Jakub Kiwior came on as a half time substitute for Sebastian Walukiewicz and did okay, but he and his team were powerless to avoid the goals from Bernardo Silva, Cristiano Ronaldo and a Jan Bednarek own goal.
Poland were never expected to get any out of the onslaught Portugal prepared for them, but they can make amends when Poland takes on Croatia in Warwaw.
Mikel Merino and David Raya (Spain 1-0 Denmark)
David Raya played 90 minutes for Spain, while Mikel Merino came on as a sub for Pedri as Spain managed a narrow win over Denmark. Raya even earned a yellow card for time wasting late in the game. Merino continued working his way up the fitness ladder and I’m happy with what I’m seeing thus far.
Raya and Merino will potentially feature in Spain’s next clash against Serbia. That would be a good one.
