Girona 1-2 Arsenal: Player Ratings

Girona hosted Arsenal for the first time in the Champions League after their hard-fought win against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League. Arnaut Danjuma opened the scoring for Girona in a goal that truly exposed Neto Murara but Arsenal responded well with well-taken goals from Jorginho and Ethan Nwaneri.

Without further ado, here are the player ratings.

Defense

Neto Murara – Would have put his team on the lurch if he handled the ball outside the box. (5)

Thomas Partey – Did well to win a penalty for his team, but was exposed for the goal Girona scored to open the contest. (6)

Jakub Kiwior – Did okay on the night but exposed Partey for the goal conceded. (7)

Gabriel – Put up another consistent performance on the night. (7)

Riccardo Calafiori – Scored a good goal that was ruled offside, but his poor positioning kept Girona’s Arnaut Danjuma onside for the goal. (6)

Midfield

Jorginho – Scored a well-taken penalty to equalize for Arsenal. If only he took that on-field penalty instead of Martin Odegaard in the FA Cup Third Round against Manchester United. (7)

Mikel Merino – Had a quiet game by his fair standards. (6)

Martin Odegaard – That roulette turn was a peach and he had some key passes. Looking like he’s back to his best. (7)

Forwards

Raheem Sterling – Struggled yet again and culminated this with a missed penalty. (5)

Leandro Trossard – Played well as the de-facto center forward and smashed a shot off the bar.  (7)

Ethan Nwaneri – Scored a well-taken goal in his first Champions League start. (8)

Substitutes

Jurrien Timber – Came off the bench and played well on the right. (7)

Kai Havertz – He has played so much football in recent weeks, so it was nice to see him get a breather. (6)

Myles Lewis-Skelly – Was back to his combative best in the second half. (7)

Declan Rice and Gabriel Martinelli – Didn’t play long enough to get a rating. (N/A)
