Andy Robertson And Marcos Senesi Set To Kick Off Roberto De Zerbi’s Tottenham Rebuild This Summer

Roberto De Zerbi’s Tottenham transfer overhaul is expected to begin with the arrivals of Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi heading into the summer window.

The defensive pair are both out of contract next month and will depart Liverpool and Bournemouth respectively, with Spurs poised to bring them in.

Robertson has won every major honour available during his time with Liverpool, making him an experienced addition to De Zerbi’s squad.

Senesi, meanwhile, was named Bournemouth’s player of the season after the Cherries secured a sixth-placed finish in the Premier League this campaign.

The left-back and centre-back are expected to boost both the quality and experience levels within the Tottenham squad as De Zerbi shapes his rebuild.

De Zerbi made his intentions clear on Sunday following the victory that kept Tottenham in the top flight, stating only half his current squad meet his standards.

“From tonight we have to start to organise and build a new team. I don’t think we have now to change too many players. We have 10, 11, 12 players good enough to stay. Good enough. Like players, especially like people, and then we have to complete the squad with the first level of players,” he said.

“First level of players because we suffered too much. I suffered a lot but I think the fans, the club, the board, the players. They suffered too much. We are Tottenham and we can’t suffer like this until the last second of the last game to stay up.”

De Zerbi added that his ambition is to no longer be fighting for survival, declaring his goal is now building the squad he envisions for pre-season.

“And I will be stronger. I don’t want to decide alone because football is a group – sporting director, scouting, CEO – but my target now is finished to stay up. My target is to start the pre-season with the team I have in my dream,” he said.

The summer window is set to be a particularly active one for the north London club, with De Zerbi overseeing what promises to be a significant squad restructure ahead of a World Cup summer.

Tottenham correspondents Alasdair Gold and Ryan Taylor discussed the expected signings and further transfer activity at the club in their podcast, Talking Tottenham.
