Birmingham City have completed the sale of forward Kyogo Furuhashi to MLS outfit LA Galaxy for an undisclosed fee.
The deal brings to an end the Japanese international’s stint at St Andrew’s, which lasted just one season after his arrival last summer.
Furuhashi, 31, made the move to Birmingham from French Ligue 1 club Rennes, signing what was intended to be a three-year contract with the Blues.
He featured 31 times across all competitions during the 2025-26 campaign as Chris Davies’ side finished 10th in the Championship.
His return in front of goal was modest by his own high standards, with the experienced forward netting just three times throughout the season.
The move to LA Galaxy represents a significant new chapter for Furuhashi, who heads to Major League Soccer after struggling to replicate his best form in England.
Prior to his time at Rennes, Furuhashi built an outstanding reputation during an exceptionally prolific spell with Scottish giants Celtic.
He scored 85 goals in 165 appearances for Celtic between 2021 and 2025, establishing himself as one of the most clinical forwards in the Scottish game.
Furuhashi was the Scottish Premiership’s leading scorer during the 2022-23 season, netting an impressive 27 goals to claim that honour.
LA Galaxy will be hoping the forward can rediscover the kind of devastating form he showed regularly during those standout years in Glasgow.
Birmingham City, meanwhile, will now look to reinvest as Chris Davies continues to build a squad capable of challenging near the top of the Championship next season.
The departure of Furuhashi leaves the Blues with a notable vacancy in their attacking ranks heading into the summer transfer window.
