Arsenal Eye Julián Álvarez Swap Deal With Viktor Gyökeres As Mikel Arteta Targets Atlético Madrid Star

>

Arsenal are plotting one of the most ambitious transfers of the summer window as Mikel Arteta continues his search for a forward to transform the attack.

The Premier League champions signed Viktor Gyökeres from Sporting CP for £64 million only a year ago, yet are reportedly prepared to use him in negotiations for Julián Álvarez.

The willingness to move on Gyökeres so quickly underlines just how highly Arteta rates the Atlético Madrid attacker heading into the new season.

Álvarez offers considerable positional flexibility, capable of leading the line, playing behind another forward, or drifting into wider areas depending on tactical demands.

His previous Premier League experience with Manchester City would significantly reduce the usual adaptation risk that comes with such an expensive and high-profile signing.

Atlético continue to insist that their star forward is not available for transfer, meaning Arsenal may need the player himself to push for an exit before any serious talks can begin.

According to The Times, Arsenal would be willing to include Gyökeres in a part-exchange proposal to bring Álvarez to the Emirates Stadium this summer.

The Gunners believe Atlético’s reluctance to strengthen Barcelona or Real Madrid could hand an overseas club a meaningful advantage in negotiations.

Gyökeres would hand Diego Simeone an immediate and proven replacement up front, while an additional cash payment could make the overall package significantly more attractive.

Arsenal would still face the considerable challenge of convincing Atlético that any offer truly reflects Álvarez’s importance to their squad.

Including Gyökeres after just one season also represents a major admission that the club may already be reconsidering the long-term role of a player they invested so heavily in last summer.

AS reports that Atlético’s public position remains firm, with the Spanish club stating they have no intention of negotiating and still consider Álvarez central to their plans.

From Arsenal’s perspective, the attraction is obvious, as Álvarez brings intelligent movement, pressing intensity, creativity, and the experience of winning major trophies at the highest level.

The deal only realistically makes sense if Álvarez actively pushes for a move and Atlético eventually become open to negotiating at a realistic valuation.

Otherwise, Arsenal risk spending valuable time and energy pursuing a transfer that remains far more ambitious idea than achievable operation at this stage.
