Geronimo Rulli is on the verge of completing a return to Manchester City after a deal was agreed with Olympique de Marseille over the weekend.
Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano broke the news on X, confirming that the Argentine goalkeeper will undergo his medical at the Etihad Stadium on Monday.
Romano posted: “Geronimo Rulli will undergo medical at Manchester City on Monday after deal agreed today with OM. Club statement to follow next. #MCFC”
The transfer fee is reported to be in the region of €3.5 million to €3.8 million, representing a modest outlay for the Premier League club.
The 34-year-old World Cup winner has agreed to a two-year contract with Manchester City, keeping him at the club through to 2028.
The signing comes following the departure of James Trafford, with manager Enzo Maresca keen to add experienced goalkeeping cover to his squad for the new campaign.
Rulli first joined Manchester City back in July 2016 when he arrived from Deportivo Maldonado, though he never made a competitive appearance for the club during that spell.
He was immediately loaned back to Real Sociedad before eventually making a permanent switch to Spain without featuring for City in any official match.
Since leaving, Rulli has built an impressive European reputation, most notably saving the winning penalty in the 2021 Europa League final shootout for Villarreal against Manchester United.
The experienced stopper went on to represent Ajax and Marseille before now earning his second opportunity at the Etihad Stadium.
Rulli’s arrival is part of a busy summer window for City as they look to reshape their squad ahead of the 2026/27 season.
The club’s biggest outlay has been the £116 million acquisition of midfielder Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest, a marquee piece of their summer recruitment.
City have also brought in winger Jeremy Monga from Leicester City for £10 million, adding another young talent to their attacking options this summer.
Young goalkeeper Pierce Charles has also arrived from Sheffield Wednesday as the club invests in its goalkeeping department for the years ahead.
With Monday’s medical set to rubber-stamp Rulli’s return, Manchester City show no signs of slowing down their preparations for another Premier League title challenge.
