Manchester United are monitoring VfB Stuttgart centre-back Finn Jeltsch as the club continues planning for the long-term future of their defence.
The 20-year-old has rapidly established himself as one of Germany’s most highly-rated young defenders, attracting attention from several major clubs across Europe.
Sources close to the agents industry have confirmed that United have received positive scouting feedback on Jeltsch and are now considering making official contact with Stuttgart.
United are understood to admire his technical qualities and his composure when receiving the ball under pressure and playing through opposition lines.
Bayern Munich currently appear to be among the strongest contenders for his signature, with the German giants keen to keep one of the Bundesliga’s brightest defensive talents at home.
Liverpool, Arsenal, and Juventus are also said to be following Jeltsch’s development closely, making the competition for his signature extremely fierce.
Jeltsch joined Stuttgart from Nürnberg in February 2025, and the club described him at the time as one of Germany’s best young players in his position.
He is contracted at Stuttgart until June 2030, giving the German club considerable negotiating power in any potential transfer discussions.
Any club hoping for a straightforward deal may face disappointment, as Jeltsch has indicated he is currently focused on life at Stuttgart.
AFP reported that the defender said he has an ideal environment at the club and is excited by the opportunity to play Champions League football.
From United’s perspective, Jeltsch represents exactly the sort of long-term profile worth pursuing, being young enough to develop further while already possessing meaningful first-team experience.
His ability to build possession from deep and play through opposition lines would suit a United side working to become more comfortable in defensive build-up play.
The complication is timing, as Jeltsch has shown little indication that he is desperate to leave Stuttgart in the near future.
Bayern’s serious interest could also make negotiations considerably harder, meaning United would need to sell him on their long-term project rather than relying purely on financial muscle.
A fee of around 50 million euros would represent a substantial investment for a 20-year-old defender, adding further complexity to any potential move.
Elite young centre-backs rarely become cheaper once they establish themselves at international level, and Jeltsch has the potential to become significantly more valuable over the next few seasons.
United would therefore be wise to maintain their interest and ensure they remain well-positioned should Stuttgart’s stance on the player change in the coming transfer windows.
