Newcastle United have made recruiting young talent a clear priority this summer, with the club already welcoming several prospects to St. James’ Park as part of their ambitious “Newcastle 2.0” overhaul.
Sean Steur, Aladji Bamba, and Ewen Jaouen are among the youngsters who have already arrived at the club during this extensive rebuilding phase.
The Magpies are now reportedly keeping close tabs on New York Red Bulls forward Julian Hall, a player who has taken the MLS by storm at just 18 years of age.
According to reporter Ben Jacobs, Newcastle faces substantial competition from across Europe in any potential pursuit of the American teenager.
Jacobs reported: “Leipzig have reignited their interest in New York Red Bulls forward Julian Hall. Atletico Madrid have also made an approach. Newcastle United and Hull City are also tracking the 18-year-old, who has nine goals and four assists in 19 starts.”
Newcastle’s interest currently appears to remain at the monitoring stage, with the club yet to make a formal approach or open negotiations with Hall or his representatives.
Atletico Madrid are the most advanced of the interested parties, with the Spanish club having already reportedly made a direct approach for the highly-rated forward.
Hall’s extraordinary development explains why so many European clubs are taking notice, having recorded nine goals and four assists across 19 starts while earning a place in the MLS All-Star squad.
The teenager made history in June 2024 when he became the second-youngest player ever to make his MLS debut, doing so at just 15 years and 190 days old.
He then etched his name further into the record books in May 2026 by becoming the youngest player to score an MLS hat-trick, aged 18 years and 50 days, surpassing the previous record set by Ricardo Pepi, who achieved the feat at 18 years and 195 days back in 2021.
Hall already carries a market value of eight million euros, a figure that is likely to rise sharply given his continued progress and the growing list of suitors circling his signature.
Newcastle manager Matthias Jaissle has made clear his desire to bring more quality into the squad, and a move to the Premier League could hold genuine appeal for a player of Hall’s ambition.
However, with Leipzig, Atletico Madrid, and Hull City all involved, the Magpies face a difficult task in winning the race for one of the most exciting young talents to emerge from North American football in recent years.
