Manchester City are pushing to secure the signature of Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez, with an official approach now confirmed between the two Premier League clubs.
According to Fabrizio Romano, City have made formal contact with Chelsea as negotiations between the clubs get underway in earnest.
The 25-year-old Argentine international is now waiting for his future to be resolved quickly, signalling his desire to move away from Stamford Bridge.
Fernandez has been a standout performer in the Premier League since arriving at Chelsea and has established himself as one of the club’s most important players.
Losing him would be a significant blow for the London club, but the player’s desire to leave appears clear and he is keen to reunite with his former manager, Enzo Maresca, at Manchester City.
Maresca, of course, worked closely with Fernandez during his time at Chelsea before moving to City, and that existing relationship appears to be a driving factor in this transfer pursuit.
Manchester City have already seen Nico Gonzalez, Rodri, and Tijjani Reijnders depart this summer and are in clear need of reinforcement in the centre of midfield.

At international level, the Argentine has also impressed, playing a role in Argentina’s 2022 World Cup triumph and featuring again at the 2026 World Cup.
