Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez has publicly confirmed his departure from the club with an emotional farewell message posted on social media.
The Argentina international is set to finalise a £125 million transfer to Manchester City, with the deal reported by BBC Sport among other outlets.
In his statement, Fernandez admitted he has not been in a “good place” recently, offering a rare and candid glimpse into his personal struggles during this period.
Despite the difficult circumstances surrounding his exit, the midfielder made a clear effort to leave Chelsea on a warm and respectful note with supporters and staff.
Fernandez wrote: “Three years ago, Cobham and Stamford Bridge became home for me and my family. I grew attached to the people, to the shirt, and to the badge of this incredible club.”
He also reflected on the highs and lows shared with the club, writing: “We suffered, we cried, I got angry many times, but we also celebrated titles and unforgettable victories.”
Fernandez addressed fans directly in the statement, saying: “I live football the same way I live my life: with passion and with all my heart. That is why I want you to know that I understand you.”
He closed the message with a heartfelt tribute, writing: “You will always be in my heart, Blues. I will always wish you, always, nothing but the very best.”
Chelsea have moved quickly to address the departure, agreeing a deal in principle to sign Lamine Camara from AS Monaco for a fee worth €55 million, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Romano confirmed the deal with his customary “here we go” announcement, noting that authorization had been granted for Camara to travel for his medical.
Chelsea fans will be encouraged that a replacement was secured before the window closed, avoiding a significant gap in the club’s midfield options.
Camara is regarded as a player with an exceptionally high ceiling, and supporters will hope he adapts quickly to life in west London under the guidance of the coaching staff.
Fernandez joins Elliot Anderson and Ayyoub Bouaddi in making the move to Manchester City, who lost Rodri to Barcelona earlier in the summer transfer window.
City have clearly identified reinforcing their midfield as a priority and have moved decisively to reshape the engine room of their squad ahead of the season.
