Chelsea academy graduate Shumaira Mheuka has completed a season-long loan move to Scottish champions Celtic for the 2026/27 campaign.
The move comes after Mheuka signed a new contract with Chelsea that will keep him at Stamford Bridge until 2031, securing his long-term future at the club.
Mheuka originally joined Chelsea’s academy at the age of 13 and steadily worked his way through the youth ranks before breaking into senior contention.
The Birmingham-born striker made his senior debut in December 2024 and has since gone on to make nine first-team appearances for the Blues.
Mheuka made history in March 2025 when he became the youngest player to start for Chelsea in a European competition, featuring in a 2-1 away win over Copenhagen in the Conference League.
His development continued at youth level, where he captained Chelsea Under-21s to the Premier League 2 title while scoring 18 goals in 19 games.
That remarkable return earned him the 2025/26 Premier League 2 Player of the Season award, underlining his status as one of the club’s most exciting young prospects.
The loan deal to Celtic is a straight arrangement with no option for the Scottish side to make the move permanent at the end of the season.
Celtic boss Martin O’Neill expressed his delight at landing the young forward, saying: “Shim has great quality, hence Chelsea extending his contract, however I think this period of his career, spent with us, will be beneficial to him and obviously to us.”
Chelsea also released a warm send-off for their prized academy product as he heads north of the border for the season.
A Chelsea statement read: “All at Chelsea wish Shim luck in Scotland and look forward to monitoring his continued progress at Celtic Park.”
Mheuka will wear the number 29 shirt at Celtic Park, where he will look to add regular senior minutes to his game under O’Neill’s guidance.
Celtic have made a strong start to their Scottish Premiership title defence, winning each of their opening three league games ahead of Mheuka’s arrival.
The loan deal represents a smart piece of business for both clubs, giving Mheuka a platform to develop while keeping his long-term future firmly tied to Chelsea.
