The Argentine superstar, who turned 39 this year, headed the ball into the net in the 24th minute to open the scoring against Cruz Azul at Nu Stadium.
Luis Suárez delivered the assist, sending a pass from the right side of the pitch that found Messi positioned in front of goal, leaping to knock in the header.
After hitting the turf, Messi got up, smiled, and pointed toward his teammate in appreciation for the ball that set up the landmark strike.
Inter Miami went on to win the match 2-0, with Casemiro adding a second goal in the 81st minute to seal the result against the Liga MX side.
The victory came in a fixture between the reigning MLS Cup champion and the most recent winner of Liga MX’s Campeón de Campeones, making it a genuinely competitive cross-competition showpiece.
The milestone carried extra significance given that Cruz Azul were also the opponents when Messi scored his very first Inter Miami goal, a stoppage-time free kick in his Miami debut back in July 2023.
Messi’s 100 goals for Inter Miami have been spread across multiple competitions, including 76 in MLS, 14 in the Leagues Cup, eight in the Concacaf Champions Cup, and one at the FIFA Club World Cup.
Remarkably, he reached the century in just 114 appearances, making it the fastest he has hit 100 goals for any club or national team throughout his career.
Inter Miami’s official figures show he scored 11 goals in 2023, 23 in 2024, 43 in 2025, and 23 so far in 2026, reflecting an extraordinary level of consistency and productivity.
The milestone comes in the wake of a memorable 2026 World Cup summer in which Argentina finished as runners-up, just short of defending their 2022 title.
Messi finished that tournament as the all-time World Cup scorer with 21 goals in total, though Kylian Mbappé ultimately surpassed him by scoring 10 goals to reach 22 and claim his second consecutive Golden Boot.
