Arsenal will get another chance to move up the table when the club hosts Everton in a Premier League encounter and the off the field celebrations in honor of Sir Herbert Chapman, Thierry Henry and Tony Adams will probably spur on the Gunners to keep the fans in ‘party mode’. In recent years, Everton has been on the end of some staggering score lines against Arsene Wenger and his men.
Arsenal began its 2010/11 campaign with a resounding 6-1 win over Everton in Goodison Park and there was also a fixture far back when the Gunners ran riot against David Moyes’ side with seven unreplied goals.
Europe’s football governing body UEFA want to probe Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere over some comments he made when Arsenal played Olympiakos in Athens. Wilshere is believed to have gambled on his own club and a certain tweet that has since been deleted has raised a few eyebrows:
“Champions league tonight come on the Arsenal! @Frimpong26AFC 1st goal is 150-1… worth a cheeky £10 right?”
However, the Englishman has denied these claims and I’m sure a brief investigation will probably take place. The claims were further aggravated when Wilshere tweeted that Frimpong almost made him some money following the Ghanaian’s effort that hit the side netting.
Moving on to more positive news, Wolves are planning to take Emmanuel Frimpong and Francis Coquelin on loan this winter but it seems as if they might hit a brick wall over that because Arsene Wenger plans to access the fitness of Wilshere and Abou Diaby before taking his decision.
Frimmy and the Coq are two players that have shown what they are made of this season and a loan move to another Premier League side will do wonders to their confidence and the gooners will get a good chance to see them strut their stuff against the best sides in the Premier League.
Yossi Benayoun joined the Gunners on loan on the last day of the transfer window and he has featured sparingly for the club. He opened his Arsenal account against Shrewsbury Town in the Carling Cup and he scored a brilliant goal in the Gunner’s last fixture. The Isreali acknowledges the fact that there is serious competition for starting places and he’s willing to bide his time.
He hopes to make his stay permanent and he recently told the media Vultures that Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri have been forgotten:
“Fabregas and Nasri are both good players, and maybe the fans expected other names, or bigger names (to replace them), but all the players bought on the last day have proved themselves and we are playing much better and winning games.”
“The supporters now understand that we have a good team with a lot of quality, and I think they have forgotten about the other players already.”
He also talked about the club’s close proximity to the teams above them and I’m confident that the Gunners will finish in the top four this season…and above Tottenham Hotspurs. I recently wrote an article on 11 reasons why the Gunners can finish above Spurs and it’s fair to say that it caused a great debate.
Mad Jens Lehmann served Arsenal for four years and he still holds the record for the longest run in the Champions League without conceding a goal. In the wake of Manchester City’s exit from Europe’s elite competition, he has labeled the side as a boring outfit.
Lehmann made a lot of comments on the Premier League table toppers with the pick of the bunch being that they make their opponents fall asleep with lots of possession. Lehmann is open to his opinion but football is not just about entertainment because at the end of the day, it’s the final results that matter.
Jose Mourinho had a large amount of 1-0 victories in his first season at Chelsea but they were enough to seal the club’s first title in 50 years and Chelsea still has Premier League defensive records that are yet to be broken. They conceded only six goals at home and nine away. Pretty impressive if you ask me.
In other news, Andre Santos will be out for three weeks while Borussia Dortmund has told Arsenal that they can get their German Messi for £30m.
