While reports suggest that the Petr Cech deal is at advanced negotiations, Arsenal have made their first signing of the summer, a 16-year-old starlet from Romanian outfit, ACS Poli Timisoara, Vlad Dragomir. This lad is the captain of the Romania Under-16s and he’s tipped for great things. The midfielder can play from the left and central midfield and he has lofty ambitions, stating that he believes he can get into the first team in a year or two.
While I admire such ambition from a young lad, he will have to work with the U-18 manager, Frans de Kat and the other youth coaches to get a hang of how things are done at London Colney. He’d definitely get his chance to show what he’s made of when the U-18 campaign gets underway next season.
There have been some talented youngsters like Gedion Zelalem and Dan Crowley that harbor such ambitions and it would be interesting to see how things pan out as they battle hard to get their Arsenal breakthroughs. Arsenal also signed a Polish holding midfielder last season, Krzytian Bielik, from Legia Warsaw and I hope these lads get their chances during the preseason to at least, offer the fans a glimpse of what they’re made of.
This YouTube video offers a glimpse of what Vlad the Impaler did in his Timisoara days before he was snapped up by the Gunners
Arsenal begins its preseason in earnest next month as they gear themselves for the upcoming Premier League Asia Trophy but I wonder if Vlad Dragomir would be selected among the players traveling to the Far East for the tourney. I’d expect the likes of Alexis Sanchez, David Ospina, Calum Chambers, Serge Gnabry and Carl Jenkinson to miss out on the Asia Trophy competition due to their involvement in international tournaments this summer.
Our scouts must have watched this lad closely and must have convinced Arsene Wenger that he’d worth trying out.
I wish Dragomir all the very best and I hope to get a glimpse of what he has to offer to the club in the foreseeable future.
