Following the favorable announcement of the Premier League and FA Cup fixtures, we can look to the month of June 2020 with anticipation as Arsenal raises the curtain for the Premier League with an all important fixture against Manchester City.
We all know how the defending champions campaign has blown hot and cold this season, with Liverpool emerging as the forerunners for their first league title in three decades, but the Gunners have it all to play for as a place in Europe remains the ultimate goal, following the capitulation against Olympiakos in the Europa League a few months ago.
Kudos to the healthcare professionals that have fought tooth and nail against this ongoing pandemic and approvals have been received for us to return to the beautiful game, even though there will be no fans to witness the action from the stands. We have seen it continue week in, week out in the German Bundesliga, so it’s something that football fans in England will have to get accustomed to.
In more important football news, the EFL has confirmed that the SkyBet Championship will commence on June 20, 2020, as there are 108 more games to be played before the season closes. Leeds United are in pole position in that competition, just one point ahead of promotion hopefuls, West Brom. Their dominance of the second tier football competition in England has been interesting, and we can only look forward for their return to the top flight.
We still wait for the official scheduling of the remaining fixtures and I will expect its an ongoing effort that would be shared to the public domain soon.
Till then, welcome to June, the month the Premier League returns!
